September 19, 2006My New Ally: Jon StewartIn my tussle with Robert Novak (see below), I have a new ally: Jon Stewart. Last night he ripped into the crusty conservative columnist, who had derided Stewart on the same C-SPAN show during which he also assailed me. (See it here.) It's comforting to be in such good company. Now if Stewart would only put me on his show.... Posted by David Corn at September 19, 2006 10:14 PM | ||||

What a cool night! I just found an old cassette from the first band I heard when I moved to Boston. I've been trying to find some "Well Babies" from everywhere, even scouring the used shops in Boston, I'd failed...and there it was right on the back of a Laurie Sargent live recording...go figgure!
the Well Babies, (name obviously taken from an late 80's media frenzy) were such an irreverent, outlandish group of mis-fits....Ah..the wonderful 80's music scene...Lead Guitar by New England Conservatory genius Stephen Silbert (who went on to lead the orchestra for the Boston Rock Opera's productions, most notably Gary Cherone's year as Jesus in "Superstar".
Just take a gander at some of the song titles...
Wheelchair Jesus
Both sides now (Judy Collins on crystal meth)
Look at me (Death Metal and guitar jazz)
Days of Promiscuous Sex are Gone (speaks for itself)
Cold December (...and when the species have all gone, they'll be pajamas to remember...and only the rich get heat and bottled water...)
And the Well Babies' Rap (an ode to the MSM's coverage of the OTHER Midland TX child of ill fortune, Jessica McClure...)

what caused this phenomenon?
maybe it was gravity? or maybe it was the incredible force from the sheer hatred that must have been emanating from the alleged 19 highjackers! ya that must have been it.

So, this is what it has come to.
The progressives' visceral hatred of Bush and this country is so great that:
First they sided with the Dems in Congress. That wasn't enough.
Then they sided with loonies at DailyKos, MoveOn.org, etc. That wasn't enough.
Now they have sided with the Islamofascists in their moral relativism.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. And so the progressives have made an unholy alliance with the Islamic jihadists.
More's the pity.
In a way, however, they render a great service. Their raison detre is so abominable, they scare people back into Republican camps.
So, please, continue the monologue. In your own perverse way, you render a great service to this country.

Rogue Nation
Time to change the course of U.S. history
It is time for the American people to take back their nation from irresponsible and lackluster special interest-motivated elected officials. Impeaching top members of the Bush administration may be in order.
The majority of Americans should be unhappy with our nation's growth and evolution--or, if you believe it--intelligent design.
It doesn't matter if you're Republican, Democrat or Independent. It's of no importance if you're middle class or poor, religious or atheist. As Bob Dylan sang during the 1960's, "You don't need a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows."
On the national, state and local levels, generations of Americans will have to struggle to change the last decade of harm generated by wealthy special interests and the elected officials they have placed in their pockets.
Most Americans, individuals and families, are hurting--big time!

kathleen,
You are the most insistent on getting Plame-gate's national security damage assessments out! And, on my part, I had postulated that, given the 3+ years since the Plame's outing, the damage had to be underwhelming to non-existent!
Update for you now that I've finished 9 chapters of HUBRIS. Here are some Corn/Isikoff descriptions of her work collecting intelligence on on Iraq's WMDs:
"Wilson and her colleagues had developed only a small number of informants....."
"Besdies, Valerie Wilson and the others were merely ops officers. It was their jobs to mount operations, ascertain whether sources were blowing smoke or telling the truth...."
Key words? "small number" and "merely ops officers"! Also, bear in mind her team (of several CIA officers) with a small number of informants, did not find the WMDs.
Now, think this over and tell me, what kind of grave threats to our national security her outing, intentional (by whomever) or not, could possibly have caused?
My logic is better than most (& I might add, well established on the Corn blog), so, my advice: don't hold your breath waiting for that 3+years-but-still-incomplet `leak damage assessment'! There isn't likely to be one! Fitz, assuming he knows as much about Valerie as Corn/Isikoff, won't be your hero much longer!
Does anyone find it curious that Corn/Isikoff used a Novak-like "ops officer" to describe Ms. Plame-Wilson? (Novak used "operative" for Plame in his leaky piece)

REID: THE SENATE IS WORKING TO FIX FAILED BUSH POLICIES
Washington, DC Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement on President Bush's press conference today:
"Five years after September 11, not a single terrorist has been brought to justice under the President's flawed policy. There is a bipartisan process underway in the United States Senate to fix the failed Bush Administration system that was struck down by the Supreme Court. Instead of picking fights with Colin Powell, John McCain, and other military experts, President Bush should change course, do what the American people expect, and finally give them the real security they deserve."

When will the terrorist strike again?
On September 12th, 2006, the military "leaked" a photo showing 190 reported Taliban militants at a funeral in Afghanistan.
190 "Terrorists" shown attending a funeral in peace a trigger finger away from death by Predator.
The picture leaked a day after 9/11/06.
How will the 190 Taliban funeral photo lead to an invasion of Afghanistan?
How will that lead to an invasion of Iran?
Will a dirty bomb be detonated in the U.S. with evidence traceable to the Iranian Nuclear Program?
Did you wish death upon the 190 people in the photo?
How many people will die next to convince the American people to expand the Middle Eastern takeover?

David,
I just left The Nation, and I read your latest post.
I think you are letting yourself fall into a familiar Rovian tactic. Let Novack go. He is a Foxy, he mouthes the talking points. He always has and he always will. It is just one of many smoke screens to keep our remaining investigative reporters emotionally engaged in defending that which needs no defending. It is a quagmire. It means they are up to stuff.
Id look Heavily into A. Chaney's energy meeting and why we the People can't know anything about this.
Haliburtons abuses, there is a new film, Im sorry but at the moment I forget the name but it was covered a bit on Olberman, or at least on MSNBC, that showed a former Haliburton employee talking about the Water that Marines were showering in, and drinking, and preparing their food with.......he broke down on camera.
He knew the problems and he was more or less told to shut up.
Look into Who was at AbuGareb......Contract employee's. What they did there.
They are scrambling to cover up, and having Novack launch this stupid attack on you to me seems a clearly diversionary tactic.
Also, knock off plugging the book in print, it hurts your credibility. From what the chick at BORDERS tells me, it is selling like hot cakes anyway. Plug it on T.V. not here.
I understand that your motivation is not greed, that this is an IMPORTANT book that Americans need to read. From what I hear, lots are, and word of mouth will make it spread.
Follow the lies please....one at a time till you get to the end.
Pork barrel spending? Why can't we all know who and how much and what?
Send a copy of the book to Stewart, Colbert, and Olberman. These three guys are Hero's in my mind, when my faith in humanity is at a low ebb these three can make a big difference. Two are news show parodies and Olberman occupies a unique place on MSNBC. They make him do celebrity reporting. But this is one articulate engaged, and pissed off reporter. And he aint shy about saying what he thinks. (Unlike the rest of MSNBC).
Sorry I rambled a bit.
Corky grabbed your book so I haven't read it yet, Im still reading Fiasco, which is excellent.

Bush Tacitly Implies WTC Controlled Demolition?
Makes strange 'explosives in U.S. buildings' reference during torture speech Friday
For example, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed described the design of planned attacks of buildings inside the U.S. and how operatives were directed to carry them out. That is valuable information for those of us who have the responsibility to protect the American people. He told us the operatives had been instructed to ensure that the explosives went off at a high -- a point that was high enough to prevent people trapped above from escaping.

The Disastrous Rule of a Mayberry Machiavelli
Bush ran as a moderate, tacked right and governed ineffectually -- before 9/11. Since then he has become the most radical American president in history, and arguably the worst.
No one predicted just how radical a president George W. Bush would be. Neither his opponents, nor the reporters covering him, nor his closest campaign aides suggested that he would be the most willfully radical president in American history.
In his 2000 campaign, Bush permitted himself few hints of radicalism. On the contrary he made ready promises of moderation, judiciously offering himself as a "compassionate conservative," an identity carefully crafted to contrast with the discredited Republican radicals of the House of Representatives. After capturing the Congress in 1994 and proclaiming a "revolution," they had twice shut down the government over the budget and staged an impeachment trial that resulted in the acquittal of President Clinton. Seeking to distance himself from the congressional Republicans, Bush declared that he was not hostile to government. He would, he said, "change the tone in Washington." He would be more reasonable than the House Republicans and more moral than Clinton. Governor Bush went out of his way to point to his record of bipartisan cooperation with Democrats in Texas, stressing that he would be "a uniter, not a divider."

Inside the Feds' Secret Wiretapping Rooms
Congress is considering three bills to "reform" massive surveillance programs. But secret facilities around the country are already eavesdropping on Americans.
How many Americans' phone calls, faxes and e-mails are already being spied upon? Both political parties act as if the number is in the low thousands -- in other words, not us. But the truth is: not even the minority leader of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Senator Jay Rockefeller (D- W.V.), has the slightest idea. "Even though Senator Rockefeller could be briefed on a classified basis," says Steven Aftergood, head of the Federation of American Scientists' Government Accountability Project, "he hasn't been given answers to the most basic questions. Senator Rockefeller doesn't know how many people have been subjected to electronic surveillance, he doesn't know what the results of any program have been, he doesn't know what errors have been committed."
A clue to the size of the government's ongoing surveillance programs can be gleaned from the lawsuits that the administration wants transferred to the secret FISA court. In May of 2006, acting on behalf of phone customers, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) filed a class action against AT&T for colluding with the government by conducting systematic searches without any court order. The lawsuit is now awaiting a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling, expected in October. A lower court tossed out AT&T's and the government's requests for dismissal.

Freedom is just Another Word for Everything to Lose
When you sweep away the hype, the lies and the politics of George W. Bush's so-called "war on terror," you are left with one inescapable conclusion: The President of the United States is at war with freedom.
In Bush's myopic view of the world, freedom is expendable. Freedom has no place in a Presidency where power is everything and the only opinion can be his.
As Bush's already fragile mental state dissolves in front of a nation that is no longer the land of the free, we see more and more evidence of a madman bent on absolute control of a totalitarian state where dissent is banned, independent thought is not allowed and different opinions are not tolerated.
The ugly reality that is Bush's deranged, paranoid, megalomaniacal obsession with power surfaced during his out-of-control performance at a press conference last Friday where he declared that any disagreement with his views are "unacceptable."

Tell the FCC: No More Cover-Ups
The FCC reportedly destroyed evidence a couple of years ago that would have undermined their justification for loosening media ownership rules. Tell the FCC that such underhanded tactics are unacceptable.
Local news produced by independently owned outlets provide Americans a valuable tool in the public debate of issues. FCC data showing that consolidation reduces local news coverage directly contradicted FCC claims that consolidation would benefit the public. But this important data never saw the light of day until now, when a remaining copy was leaked to Senator Barbara Boxer of California.
The FCC is once again rewriting media ownership rules that could allow big media companies to gobble up even more local media outlets. Be a part of the official record, tell the FCC to get to the bottom of this cover-up and make sure ALL the relevant information is considered in a transparent fashion.

More on Novak - the prince of darkness
Having worked for all three major cable news channels, Jeff Cohen has witnessed firsthand how corporate media conglomerates are killing our democracy. He talked to AlterNet's executive editor Don Hazen about his experiences and his new book "Cable News Confidential: My Misadventures in Corporate Media" (PoliPoint Press, 2006). Two video clips of his appearances with Robert Novak on CNN's "Crossfire" in 1996 are also available: "For Vengeance" and "Feminist Weenies."
Don Hazen: You were a Fox on-air personality for years and are a red-blooded American progressive. Isn't it ironic that you had a semicomfortable home at the premier right-wing network?
Jeff Cohen: It was more than ironic, it was a fluke. I was allowed to stay on the air primarily because I was a weekender. I wasn't ready for prime time. I can remember a couple incidents where Sean Hannity came into the green room when our show, "Fox NewsWatch," was waiting to go on. A couple of the people started haranguing him, saying, "When are you going to have a debate with Jeff Cohen? Are you afraid of him?" I survived -- it was a media criticism show. I was able to say things that you wouldn't normally be able to do anywhere else on Fox News. I mean, I regularly criticized Fox News and Rupert Murdoch by name. There were a couple of times I thought my career was in jeopardy, but it's important for people to realize I left Fox News on my own.
Hazen: We've got a couple of clips of you going at it with Robert Novak (VIDEO: For Vengeance, and Feminist Weenies), who's been at the center of the Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame scandal. Tell us a little bit about the Prince of Darkness.
Cohen: That's the funny thing about the Prince of Darkness -- he was always good for me. When you're on cable news and you're in an ideological debate, it's great to be going up against someone who seems to concede the center, and almost pushes himself to the extreme. Like when we did our debate on the death penalty and he's basically saying, "I don't care if it's a deterrent, I want vengeance." I'd already compared him to the ayatollahs of Iran, and I'd said that Western democratic countries had all moved toward the abolition of the death penalty, and he sort of said those countries are maybe too civilized.

I watched the 9/11 Press For Truth last night thanks to the thoughtfulness of capt, and it is something everyone should watch. No debating about collapsing buildings or evaporating aircraft, just the whole timeline as reported by many different news sources and a lot of input from the Jersey girls and other family members. The only conclusion possible is that bushco knew in advance about the impending attacks, and allowed them to take place to engage in this neverending war on terror which had been planned many years ago. They knew, remaining in denial will never change that simple fact.

Emails show Bush admin. blocked scientist from discussing global warming
NOAA: You Don't Need That Weatherman to Know Which Way Global Warming Goes
By Paul Kiel - September 19, 2006, 12:13 PM
Documents show that a government scientist was passed over for a media appearance because he didn't toe the administration's line on global warming, a senior House Democrat suggested today.
The emails (posted here) show that CNBC requested in October 2005 to interview Dr. Tom Knutson, a scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, about whether global warming was contributing to the intensity of hurricanes. The request was passed up the chain to Commerce press secretary Chuck Fuqua.
"What is Knutson's view on global warming vs. decadal cycles?" Fuqua asked his subordinate.
He's "a bit of a different animal" than the higher-ups at the NOAA, the aide responded.
"Why can't we have one of the other guys on then?" Fuqua emailed back.
NOAA ultimately denied CNBC the interview.
Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), the ranking member on the House Committee on Government Reform, has written a letter to Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez to "learn more about the matter."

You have just supported my point about the Democrats. Waxman is also pushing for investigations about the fraud by the companies working in Iraq. It's heartbreaking that this country is being run by a party who literally doesn't give a shyt about the nation. They don't even give a shyt about the soldiers they send into combat.

Congresscritter Trent Franks (R AZ) was on todays Washingtoon Journal touting the Wush's interrorgation techniques, saying that the pResident is right and Warner, McCain, et al, are wrong, etc.
He also said some interesting things, such as death at the hands of interrorgators is a capital offense, and that the U.S. does not engage in torture.
Also, he claimed that SCOTUS was wrong to claim that the detainees should be covered under Article Three of the Geneva Conventions.
I tried, but was unable to get through.
I would have brought up that we've had to suffer under the non-precedent setting SCOTUS Bush v. Gore travesty - he'll have to suffer through being unable to torture.
I would have brought up documented detainee Homicides: Autopsy reports reveal homicides of detainees in U.S. custody
I would have brought up Mahar Arar.(released by the ACLU 10/24/05 | More Torture Documents Released Under FOIA)
I could have brought up this little gem: U.S.: More Than 600 Implicated in Detainee Abuse.
At some point I'd of been cut off, but hopefully not before I got to bring up John Negroponte and Battalion 316 and the history of US torture in Latin America and asked him if he had read Sister Diana Ortiz's The Blindfold's Eyes.
Alas, I did not get through. So I'm about to call his office, Phone: 202-225-4576, and I'd ask all my friends here to do the same and tell the man that AMERICANS DO NOT APPROVE OF TORTURE, and that we have blantly used torture in this illegal campaign. Thank you.

Scarborough and Maher Take On "Is Bush an Idiot?"
Scarborough aired the second part of his interview with Bill Maher last night.
In this clip, the two discuss the segment Joe did back in August asking the seemingly forbidden question, Is Bush an Idiot? As Bill says, "the jury's in on this one." I couldn't agree more, Bill.

Who made this happen? We did. Blogs unite! We didn't shut up like good little sheep.
ExxonMobil Stops Funding Competitive Enterprise Institute
ExxonMobil is notorious for funding groups that attack global warming science. A recent survey by the Royal Society, "Britain's premier scientific academy," found that "ExxonMobil last year distributed $2.9m to 39 groups that the society says misrepresent the science of climate change."
Exxon may be on the verge however of giving up these efforts. Following the release of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, the Competitive Enterprise Institute produced television advertisements "that welcomed increased carbon dioxide pollution."
In response to an inquiry from the Guardian, Exxon announced that the company "stopped funding the Competitive Enterprise Institute this year." Also, Exxon promised the Royal Society in July that they would "not be providing any further funding" to groups that distort global warming science.
The Royal Society has written Exxon, asking them if theyÕ¶e made good on this pledge.

Newspapers have become more bold because they know what the readership thinks. If the bloggers and people like David Corn and the people like us on this site have the courage to write what we believe then the MSM must have the courage to report the news. If they don't there is no reason for them to remain in business.

I was just reading salon.com and came across one of Tim Grieve's pieces -- he used the word "redneck" in his summation. I realize this topic is now "closed" but here it is anyway because it illuminates one usage of the word (very similar to Saladin's usage, which I think is accurate and NOT inappropriate)...
"....So why is (George) Allen so upset? It seems pretty simple to us. When you paint yourself as one with rednecks and racists -- wrapping yourself in the Confederate flag, hanging a noose from your office tree, cozying up to the modern version of the Ku Klux Klan, calling out the dark-skinned college kid in your midst -- you don't take it kindly when someone asks whether you might be on the other side of the line you've been drawing.
Macaca is always the other guy. It can't possibly be me."

O'Reilly, the way to thank me is to call his office.
As always, when speaking to the phone staff, please be polite.
A few rules of thumb I try to follow.
1) Introduce yourself, and say where you are calling from.
2) Have your points outlined in advance.
3) Have materials handy to reference.
4) Be polite.
5) I always ask at the end of the conversation if I was coherent in my statement, if there are any questions, and I did I remain polite throughout.
Thank you!

BUSH TO OFFER BUYOUTS TO TERRORISTS
Taking its cue from Ford, General Motors and other troubled corporations, the Bush Administration has decided to abandon its current war on terrorism, and instead offer lucrative buyouts to the terrorists.
Announcing this policy in front of a huge banner entitled "STRAY FROM THE COURSE," President Bush conceded that it was "getting too expensive to keep fighting them over there, instead of just paying them off over here."
The buyout package will be paid out completely in one dollar bills, to accomodate the terrorists well-known affinity for spending their money in strip clubs.
In addition, Bush will call upon his evangelical base to help supply each of the retiring terrorists with 72 virgins, a demand that was deemed non-negotiable by the UAW United Allah Workers.

The Bush Administration Kept an Innocent Man in a Coffin-Sized Dungeon for 10 Months
This is just so unbelievably wrong:
Arar, now 36, was detained by U.S. authorities as he changed planes in New York on Sept. 26, 2002. He was held for questioning for 12 days, then flown by jet to Jordan and driven to Syria. He was beaten, forced to confess to having trained in Afghanistan -- where he never has been -- and then kept in a coffin-size dungeon for 10 months before he was released, the Canadian inquiry commission found.
O'Connor concluded that "categorically there is no evidence" that Arar did anything wrong or was a security threat.

Since Sept. 11, the CIA, working with other intelligence agencies, has captured an estimated 3,000 people in its effort to dismantle terrorist networks. Many of them have been secretly taken by "extraordinary rendition" to other countries, hidden from U.S. legal requirements and often subject to torture.
We know this is the modus operandi of the Bush crew. They loves their torture. They gots to have their torture.
You know what TORTURE does more than anything?
It forces people to confess to things they NEVER DID, which is, I suspect, the main point.
What I want to know is-- what the HELL has happened to this country?
When exactly was it that the CIA turned into the gestapo?
I'm angry about this, and I'm also angry that more people aren't angry about this. There is a real sickness that pervades the people running this country. And it's not just Bush and Cheney and the neocons and enablers like John Yoo. It's all the underlings who are carrying out the incredibly immoral policies of the Bush administration. The sad thing is the problem runs DEEP.
(via Glenn Greenwald)
UPDATE: The related issue of how this insanity plays out for domestic politics is discussed here by Digby, with the bottom line is that Republicans are putting on a show acting as if they are disagreeing with the Bush administration whereas in reality they are only weakly watering down the immorality. And still, almost nothing is heard from the democrats.

The CIA and Nazi War Criminals
National Security Archive Posts Secret CIA History
Released Under Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act
National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Book No. 146
Edited by Tamara Feinstein
February 4, 2005
Excerpts:
The IWG was established in January 11, 1999 and has overseen the declassification of about eight million pages of documents from multiple government agencies. Its mandate expires at the end of March 2005.
The documentation unearthed by the IWG reveals extensive relationships between former Nazi war criminals and American intelligence organizations, including the CIA. For example, current records show that at least five associates of the notorious Nazi Adolf Eichmann worked for the CIA, 23 other Nazis were approached by the CIA for recruitment, and at least 100 officers within the Gehlen organization were former SD or Gestapo officers.

Missing: A black voice for economic equality
Since MLKÕ³ days, many African-Americans have risen to positions of authority. Yet these leaders are failing to help blacks keep pace economically.
By Juan Williams
September 20, 2006
USA Today
The most frequently asked question about black leadership in America today is: Where is the next Martin Luther King Jr.?
In one sense, the question is misguided. Increased integration has created options for black leaders that did not exist a generation ago. Think of Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice as secretaries of State, Stan O'Neal as chief executive and president of Merrill Lynch, Richard Parsons as head of Time Warner and Ken Williams as general manager of the baseball champion Chicago White Sox.
....But the continuing focus on.....how to respond to the disproportionate poverty among black and Hispanic Americans?....the high rate of out-of-wedlock births among blacks, now at nearly 70%?.....dropout rates for young black and Hispanic high school students, now approximately 50%, as well as the awful achievement gap for students of color who do stay in high school?
Global challenge
At the start of the 21st century,....on the issue of black America remaining competitive in a global economy moving away from blue-collar jobs, there is a leadership void.
The good news is that previous generations of successful black leaders offered a template for this era. Black leaders of every political ideology forcefully delivered a message centered on self-help - of taking control of one's fate -....
Frederick Douglass wrote an editorial, "Learn Trades or Starve," to spur former slaves to keep pace with the economic changes of the late 19th century......
But since the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision.....the focus of activism has shifted to government action. The message of individual empowerment has been replaced by appeals to white guilt based on a culture of victimization.
In 2004, on the 50th anniversary of the Brown decision, entertainer Bill Cosby gave a speech in which.....He pointed to children born in poverty, sky-high rates of black people in jail and the acceptance of crime in the black community. He bluntly told the audience: "Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal."
Cosby's tough love
Cosby said many of the problems facing black America today have less to do with white racism than with internal failures, such as poor parenting. In return for speaking out, he was accused of blaming the victim, letting whites off the hook for "systemic racism" and airing black America's "dirty laundry."
Undeterred, Cosby responded a few weeks later. He said too many black leaders "want you to remain in a hole and they rejoice in your hopelessness because they have jobs mismanaging you."
.....In the 21st century, black leaders must inspire people by urging them to get the highest level degree possible to keep pace in the rough-and-tumble global economy. Leaders must tell young people that even if they are in the worst school imaginable, they must not drop out; that they shouldn't have children unless they are married; that they should work to avoid drifting into crime and the living hell of the prison system. Leaders must encourage people to take any job to avoid falling out of the workforce.
More than 100 years after Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois agreed that self-help to educate children and economic power were necessary to bring blacks into the American mainstream, there is still a hunger to find the next leader to deliver that message.
Juan Williams is a senior correspondent for NPR, a political analyst for Fox News and author of Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America - and What We Can Do About It.
Comments
Juan, I agree that we need black america to step up and take responsibility, but I don't know if they need leaders to do it.
It seems to me that Asians are doing well despite language barriers. Why? It appears they emphasize family, work, thrift and education. I don't see any Asian leaders espousing these virtues.
Bottom line: we need "bottom up" action, not "top down" words.

Operation Paperclip Revisited
Operation Paperclip was the name of the project that assimilated Nazi scientists into the American establishment by obscuring their histories and short-circuiting efforts to bring their true stories to light. The project was led by officers in the United States Army. Although the program officially ended in September 1947, those officers and others carried out a conspiracy until the mid-fifties that bypassed both law and presidential directive to keep Paperclip going. Neither Truman nor Eisenhower were informed that their instructions were ignored, and if there is a lesson to be learned from Operation Paperclip, it is that, as Elie Wiesel said of the Holocaust, the world can get away with it.

Five Years Later: The Official Story Falls Apart
...20 years ago, in Iran/Contra, the PNAC social network circumvented Congress and infused capital into a right-wing militia, using a complex international network that included massive narcotics trafficking, surface support for Islamic fundamentalism, domestic media manipulation, fake Christianity at home, and the power of the dollar. In other words, it was a lot like 9/11. The pattern is the same, and so are a lot of the names:
John Negroponte, National Intelligence Chief, presided over death squads in Honduras, while ambassador there during Iran/Contra.
Eliot Abrams was indicted for lying to Congress about Iran/Contra, yet he laid low and came back strong as one of the National Security Councils Senior Directors in the Bush White House.
The most relevant example of the whole guilty lot of them is Richard Armitage. In 1989, he couldnt get a job in President Bush the Firsts Department of State, because of his odious Defense Department work with Iran/Contra criminal Oliver North. Skip ahead a scant 12 years later, to the summer of 2001:
Armitage sails into a position as Assistant Secretary of State, without a peep from the media or Senate Foreign Relations Committee. After a lifetime in CIA/DIA circles, Armitage happens to hold the highest civilian decoration from the Pakistani military, and has deep social ties there, from his work in the Afghan/Soviet civil war.
Remember that one? That was the 1979-1988 operation where bin Laden, the Mujahedeen, and the Pakistani intelligence group, ISI, were used as proxies for the U.S. military, a mix that later created the Taliban, which helped create Al Qaeda. The 9/11 Commission Report distored all this, because it's at the core of understanding 9/11.
Also noticeably missing from the Report is Richard Armitage's close relationship to the Pakistani funders of 9/11. The Report incredibly states that discovering the funding for 9/11 is of little practical significance. However, the FBI, the Wall Street Journal, and the Times of India have all acknowledged that Pakistani ISI Chief Mahmood Ahmad wired $100,000 to Mohamed Atta on Sept. 10, 2001. Ahmad had met extensively that May with the State Departments Richard Armitage, and CIA Director George Tenet, in Pakistan. On the morning of 9/11, Ahmad was in D.C., meeting with Representative (and later CIA director) Porter Goss and Senator Bob Graham. When news of Mahmood Ahmad's wire transfer reached his home country, he was let go, a month after 9/11. The Pakistani ISI works very closely with the U.S. State Department, and handlers like Armitage. Ahmad was fired quietly, when he should have been arrested, extradited, and served up to the American public as a culprit for the attacks. Remember how high the passions flared in October, 2001? Instead, the whole incident was buried. Ahmad walked.

This is an incredible article. Much of this was covered in the 9/11 Press For Truth movie. Follow the money, it is the bombshell and will reveal the inside players.

BELIEVE IT, OR NOT?
By Paul L. Williams & David Dastych Saturday, September 16, 2006
Urgent news from Abu Dawood, one of the newly appointed commanders of the al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan:
Final preparations have been made for the American Hiroshima, a major attack on the U. S.
Muslims living in the United States should leave the country without further warning.
The attack will be commandeered by Adnan el Shukrijumah ("Jaffer Tayyer" or "Jafer the Pilot"), a naturalized American citizen, who was raised in Brooklyn and educated in southern Florida.
The al Qaeda operatives who will launch this attack are awaiting final orders. They remain in place in cities throughout the country. Many are masquerading as Christians and have adopted Christian names.
more here
I have read every article related to this one on the site and it does indeed sound genuine. My question is was it planted by the Rovester to scare us or is a case of someone wanting to make a name for himself?
We could be staring down the barrel of a gun pointed right at our heads! Does the gun exist? Is the gun loaded?
We could be seeing the beginnings of an event that would make 9/11 look like a minor event.

@45 He told us the operatives had been instructed to ensure that the explosives went off at a high -- a point that was high enough to prevent people trapped above from escaping.
Sounds to me like bush was shooting from the lip again, unscripted and unintelligent. High enough? Well, the 1993 World Trade Center bombing was accomplished by placing the explosives in an underground parking garage. Can't get much LOWER than that.
If he was referring to the "high power" of any explosives, rather than the physical location of the placement of any explosives, he sure flubbed his lines. I don't see how his unclear comment can be logically conflated to prove that he was a tacitly "admitting" to a planned demolition on 9/11.
But, alas, bush has given the CTers more fodder. Stooopid f**ker that he is.

From Dave Emory's For The Record:
FTR #558 The Eichmann File
Recorded June 11, 2006
This program supplements the recent disclosure that the CIA knew the whereabouts of Nazi war criminal Adolph Eichmann, but failed to act on that information. Eichmann was the overseer of the extermination of European Jewry. This broadcast sets forth information about EichmannÕs participation in a CIA-sponsored mission to train the Egyptian intelligence service and general staff in the early 1950Õs. The disclosure of this information in a public forum following an arrest of Eichmann would have proved embarrassing, one possible reason for the CIAÕs reticence on the subject. The Eichmann case also illustrates something of the texture of US political and national security bureaucracy: Even as elements of the CIA ran the Egyptian operation that allegedly employed Eichmann, other American officials noted the influx of some of the most heinous Nazi war criminals and reported on it to their superiors with great alarm. Functioning as a Trojan Horse for the Underground Reich, the Gehlen spy organization embodied a perpetuation of the Third ReichÕs chain of political and military command. Evolving from the Third ReichÕs Eastern Front intelligence service to become the CIAÕs department of Russian and Eastern European affairs, the outfit run by General Reinhard Gehlen cleared its liaison with the Americans with [Hitler successor] Admiral Karl von Doenitz and [GehlenÕs ÒformerÓ chief of staff] General Franz Halder. Thus, the Nazi command hierarchy remained essentially intact. Much of the program focuses on Otto von Bolschwing, EichmannÕs superior for a time. Von Bolschwing spent much of the postwar period working for Gehlen and the CIA. Most importantly, his protŽgŽÑHelene Von DammÑdrew up the lists of personnel from which Ronald Reagan made his cabinet selections. In effect, von Bolschwing and von Damm oversaw the staffing of the US political bureaucracy with personnel selected according to their highly specialized taste!
************************************
Further investigation of Mr. Emory's work finds him strongly critical of Iran and Hezbollah:
FTR #564 Interview with John Loftus
He Who Tells the Truth Gets Chased Out of Nine Villages
Recorded August 13, 2006
REALAUDIO
There is an old Turkish proverb that goes: ÒHe who tells the truth gets chased out of nine villages.Ó In this program, Mr. Emory and John Loftus tackle the unenviable task of dispelling some of the deliberate disinformation concerning the recent Lebanon war, as well as analyzing the phenomenon of Islamic fascism. In addition to discussing the history and economic ideology of the Islamofascist Muslim Brotherhood, John and Mr. Emory highlight the Nazi characteristics of Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite guerilla organization backed by Iran. Hezbollah uses the Nazi salute, a gesture otherwise unknown in the Islamic or Arab world. This description also highlights IranÕs history of association with the Third Reich, as well as the relationship of the Islamic government of that country with elements of the Underground Reich. After reviewing the profound relationship between multinational corporations and the development of international fascism, John and Mr. Emory note that the free-market, globalized economic philosophy of the Muslim Brotherhood make it a vehicle of choice for the multinational corporations. In this respect, the current conflict between Western troops and Islamic militants around the world is strongly analogous to the Second World War, in which Allied soldiers were locked in mortal combat with the troops of the fascist powers, while transnational corporations (including American ones) were supportive of fascism. Much of the program covers the deliberate perversion of news about the Lebanon war. In addition to the deliberate alteration of photographs to maximize the appearance of damage to Lebanese civilian infrastructure, there is evidence that some of the alleged Israeli atrocities were either significantly exaggerated or fabricated altogether.
Program Highlights Include: JohnÕs announcement of a fledgling program to provide Americans with access to oil that does not come from nations that support terrorism; JohnÕs announcement of an up Intelligence Summit gathering that will feature the Òsilent majorityÓ of peaceful Muslims, opposed to the ravages of militants like Hezbollah.

All those CTers are raking the muck and finding all these criminals, the usual suspects involved in the usual crimes.
The end of the above article.
...it's ironic that this same State Department denounces 9/11 Truth as conspiracy theories. This same State Department is packed to the gills with the top criminal minds of Iran/Contra. This same State Department's Francis X. Taylor, in July 2001, told an informant from the Joint Terrorism Task Force, Randy Glass, we know about the threat, the terrorist threat, from Al Qaeda and bin Laden flying air planes into the World Trade Center. Musharraf [the Pakistani president] has guaranteed us because his ISI behind it that he can stop it if we support him publicly.
Randy Glass is one of many 9/11 whistle-blowers who were trying to stop the attacks. If the American people really want the truth about 9/11, we've got to stop diddling around with theories about maybe a cruise missile hit the Pentagon, or maybe controlled demolition took down the towers. Maybe so, but let's go there only after we've met the real people in flesh and blood, who have suffered to get the truth out. They are the real heroes of this whole thing: Randy Glass, Robert Wright (the FBI agent who was stopped by higher-ups from tracking bin Laden's finances), Sibel Edmonds (a translator who discovered pro-Al Qaeda elements inside FBI, but was gagged by John Ashcroft for speaking out), Colleen Rowley (the FBI lawyer who was mysteriously stopped from getting a routine warrant to search Zacharias Moussoui's laptop), etc. Most recently, this past year, a lot of new ground has been broken with Anthony Shaffer, the Lieutenant Colonel who did intelligence work in the Pentagon. His operation, Able Danger, identified terrorist Mohamed Atta in year 2000. But unfortunately, someone higher up was protecting Atta. The real cutting edge of 9/11 Truth is an Internet search for Shaffer's 48-page statement. Just don't believe what you read about him in the Washington Post.
=============
These are not theories but well reported facts that got swept under the carpet. Miker was right, the Press For Truth movie is fantastic and covers all these people.

Next Attack Imminent: Muslims ordered to leave the United States
Michael Savage, interview with Dr. Paul Williams and the next terrorist attack on America
*****
Well if the good Dr. Williams would willingly be interviewed by Michael Savage I am sure the whole thing is not very credible. Also one of the editors of Canada Free Press is none other than:
Arthur Weinreb is an author, columnist and Associate Editor of Canada Free Press. His work as appeared on Newsmax.com, Men's News Daily, the Drudge Report, Foxnews.com and The Rant. He can be reached at aweinreb@interlog.com
******
I think Ann Coulter would be more believable.
IMHO

@93DEN
a terrorist attack will be just what the doctor ordered for convincing john Q public that america needs to upscale it's war on arabs to include iran.
we've had fair warning now thanx to the canada free press.
what's truly lame is that foolish john Q's such as factchecker have ignored every piece of evidence that shows that the arabs have been framed by the neocons.
they will jump on the next frame-up with open arms as justification for more slaughter of so-called islamofascists.
FUCK YOU factchecker!

Bob Geiger shares a transcript of Senators Harry Reid and Dick Durbin on the floor as Reid responds to Senator Frist's idiotic meanderings:
Mr. Durbin: Will the Senator yield for a question?
Mr. Reid: I will be happy to yield for a question.
Mr. Durbin: Can the Senator refresh my memory? Was Mr. Bremmer the recipient of a gold medal or something from the President? Didn't he receive some high decoration or medal for his performance in Iraq?
Mr. Reid: The answer is, yes, he received that. I assume one would expect that from somebody who had a throne while he was over there.
As they say, read the whole thing. It is indeed beautiful to behold. For the love of God, Democrats...please, more like this!

Israelis use bulldozers to wreck crops in South
The Daily Star Lebanon
SOUTH LEBANON: Israeli bulldozers started to level the soil and cut down olive trees in Yarin in the Tyre region on Monday, spoiling several cultivated fields and preventing farmers from inspecting their lands. "Israeli bulldozers have spoiled my land, cutting down the fruit trees I've planted," said farmer Shaker Afleh on Tuesday, as he and his daughter watched the bulldozers on his land from a kilometer away.
Israel's earth-movers have cut down several trees belonging to more than 10 members of the Abu Dellah family.
"Bulldozers have been leveling the soil for two days, trying to expand the Blue Line at the expense of our land and livelihoods," Abdallah Abu Dellah said on Tuesday.
"The international force has done nothing but register Israel's daily violations of Lebanon's territory," he said.
Shepherds refrained from escorting their herds to the fields for fear of being shot by the Israeli soldiers, one resident told The Daily Star. http://www.dailystar.com.lb
"Israeli bulldozers are trying to level the greatest number of trees in order to monitor the border easily," the source said.
The area's residents said they feared that Israel would erect barbed-wire fences in their lands and set up a so-called "buffer zone."
Israeli troops set up a fence last week in a Marjayoun field, leveled soil and created a large trench despite the presence of UNIFIL forces.
Meanwhile, an Israeli bulldozer carried out digging work on Tuesday before laying water pipes in the Wazzani River in Marjayoun in a bid to funnel water to the town of Ghajar, the National News Agency (NNA) reported this week. Five Israeli tanks were seen in Tallat Mahames inside the eastern sector in the South, the NNA added.
Further Israeli violation of Lebanese airspace took place when Israeli reconnaissance jets flew over several Tyre-area villages on Tuesday at noon, the NNA further reported.

Muslims killed Jews at the 72 Olympics. Muslims held our people captive despite the civilized worlds common agreement that embassies should be a safe haven. Muslims blew up marines in Beruit, Muslims strap bombs on their children in Gaza and rejoice when their progeny are blown to bits while killing Jews. Muslims attacked the USS Cole. Killing innocents. Muslims attacked the world trade center(twice) The second time slaughtering 3,000 innocent women, children and men.Muslims cut the head off of Nick Berg while he gurgled blood through his slit throat( There are videos of it because Muslims are fond of pornographic violence. Muslims attacked Spain, Bali, and London. Muslims recently shot a nun in cold blood( while she was dying she was heard saying" I forgive" I forgive" Muslims slaughtered Theo Van Gogh in the streets of Denmark. There is a word for people on this site that believe Bush and the US are a bigger threat than Muslims. The Muslims call you dhimmi. These are infidels that will not convert to Islam and so must pay a head tax( that means you pay the tax otherwise you get the Richard Pearl treatment. He was also beheaded by Muslims for the " crime" of being a Jew. I ask those of you that have any intellectual ability to reason fairly to stop and think about who and what are a bigger threat. Hating Bush is one thing. That is your right as an American. But , honestly look at the world around you and realize this Islamic/Muslim threat has been around for a long time. We didn't start the fire.

Willie's not alone:
Marijuana Arrests at Record Level
New figures released by the FBI this week show marijuana arrests are now at an all time high. More than seven-hundred eighty thousand people were arrested last year for marijuana violations. ThatÕs over forty percent of all drug arrests in the United States. Almost nine in ten were arrested for possession. Allen St. Pierre of NORML - The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws said: "Arresting hundreds of thousands of Americans who smoke marijuana responsibly needlessly destroys the lives of otherwise law abiding citizensÉ It makes no sense to continue to treat nearly half of all Americans as criminals for their use of a substance that poses no greater health risks than alcohol or tobacco.Ó

17 Arrested Protesting Bush Outside UN
Outside the assembly, thousands of protesters rallied against the ongoing war in Iraq and called for an end to all wars. Seventeen activists were arrested for civil disobedience after they tried to deliver President Bush an indictment charging him with crimes against humanity.

114 That argument is the same tired argument as the argument that black men in America are the main cause of violent crime in America. Enough about race and religion and ethnic background as the cause of violence. It is not. The people are radicalized. They are less than 1/10000 of 1% of the muslim population.
Posted by: DOODY at September 20, 2006 12:46 PM
What argument? I simply stated facts. I just didn't leave out the fact that they are Muslims. My facts are documented and can be checked even by those that disagree with me.Your"facts" don't pass the sniff test. The only tiresome thing is people pretending that Islam is a peaceful religion when all proof is to the contrary.I make no assessment of race or ethnicity as part of this cycle of violence and only connect one thing with all the violence:Islam Please read the Koran sura 9:29 which is further proof that the problem is not with the infidels but rather the Islamic jihadists.

regardless of what muslims did to jews in '72 for whatever their reasons might've been, they were framed for 9/11 and london 7/7.
the war on terror is in reality a war on arabs for profit.
when there is another terror attack in the u.s. and muslims are again blamed for it you will no doubt jump right on the revenge bandwagon but i personally will look before i leap just as have re: 9/11 and london 7/7.

no. another tiresome thing is people pretending that bushco are a peaceful administration with benevolent motives when all evidence is to the contrary.

Wow I am just Gobsmacked at the shallow level of thinking by some on this site. It really is quite embarrassing to witness. I don't ask you to believe me but please listen to the words of the "innocent" Muslims who have framed. MEMRI.com does translations of speeches by imams and clerics and government officials in Muslim countries. To the feminists on this site, you do know Muslim women are buried up to their heads in sand and are then stoned to death for various crimes, such as the " crime" of being raped. You do know that the innocent Muslims who were framed by right wingers( or whatever desperate fairytale is being sold these days) have taken credit for the destruction and crimes being committed by them. Osama bin Laden has been quoted admitting to 9/11. There are videos of Nick Berg being beheaded by Muslims. The Muslim who killed Theo Van Gogh joyfully admitted his guilt. I mean distrusting your Government is wise but never questioning the motives of our enemies is foolish at best and suicidal at worst.

John Diamond,
I am a Jew. I have traveled in Tajikistan and Afghanistan. I have dined and drank with Muslims.
Is there ethnic violence in the world? Yes, of course. Excuse my Rumsfeldian rhetoric.
It wasn't so long ago that some Christians were slaughtering Jews by the millions. As well as Gays, Romany, Trade Unionists and others.
As Dave Emory points out, there are financial interests which profit from violence, and they've been egging on both sides.
Posted by: Robert Schwartz at September 20, 2006 01:28 PM
Mr. Arbuckle, or fatty if you will,
You have a right to hate Bush and company and think that they are the scourge of the earth. I think you are hopelessly wrong about that but then again, that is my right. But I ask you, If your house is infested with rats and a tornado is coming, do you ignore the tornado out of disgust for the rats? Or do you worry about both? Or only the rats? To obsess about Bush is your prerogative, but why do you abandon your critical eye when it comes to the obvious Muslim threat? You hate the rats so much you ignore the tornado that will kill both you and the rats.

John,
Don't expect people on this site to take you seriously when you make statements like that. I have many, many Muslims in my area. Muslim women are very educated. The degrading actions come from people like you who insult their culture by writing the crap you write. You read stuff on the internet and you believe it to be true. Does stoning happen? Yeah. But there are a lot of Muslims in the world it doesn't happen to.

Scientists shocked as Arctic polar route emerges Wed Sep 20, 7:18 AM ET
PARIS (AFP) - European scientists voiced shock as they showed pictures which showed Arctic ice cover had disappeared so much last month that a ship could sail unhindered from Europe's most northerly outpost to the North Pole itself.
The satellite images were acquired from August 23 to 25 by instruments aboard Envisat and EOS Aqua, two satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA).
Perennial sea ice -- thick ice that is normally present year-round and is not affected by the Arctic summer -- had disappeared over an area bigger than the British Isles, ESA said.
