Wouldn't It Be Nice?

I received the below press release from the Democratic Policy Committee, which is a group of Democratic senators who hold unofficial hearings on Capitol Hill and occasionally put out reports. The group has mounted hearings on the Bush administration's use--or misuse of--prewar intelligence, the CIA/Plame leak, contracting in Iraq, and other hard-edged matters. That is, the DPC has been doing what the Republican-controlled Senate committees should have been doing--but haven't. Can you imagine if real-life Senate committees actually spent time digging into such controversial issues--actually, you can't, not while the GOPers are running the show.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) --- The U.S. Senate Democratic Policy Committee (DPC) will conduct an oversight hearing this Friday, July 28, to examine how cronyism and mismanagement plagued a $243 million contract to rebuild 150 Iraqi health care facilities and contributed to Iraq's ongoing health care crisis. The hearing will be held at 11:00 AM, in Room 192 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building."What we're hearing about the reconstruction of Iraq's health care system is a microcosm of everything that’s wrong with the Administration's approach to rebuilding Iraq," said Senator Byron Dorgan, Chairman of the DPC.

"We have a massive waste of money, fueled by the all-too-familiar combination of cronyism and mismanagement, compounded by a lack of oversight by those who have a responsibility to keep an eye on things."

The hearing will be the ninth oversight hearing on Iraq reconstruction contracting conducted by the DPC, which has moved to fill the congressional oversight void left by the majority-controlled standing committees. Dorgan says Iraq reconstruction contracting has produced "the greatest amount of waste, fraud and abuse in America's history."

We all know nothing is going to change until we force leadership into congress. Why even bother discussing some dems getting together to point out what we all already know? Let's talk about something that we will see change in -- not just some talk, liberals being pissed, conservatives calling liberals names and continuing to steal, and then all of us citiznes looking around with a huge government cock in our asses asking, "Why doesn't someone do something?"

Let's see how long it takes for the GOPers to demean and dismiss Dorgan and his committee.

No amount of Democratic oversight will humble the neocons. They will thumb their collective noses at the Dems as "politicizing the war." The GOPers will continue in their merry war-mongering ways heightening the risk of nuclear war, hoping they beat the election clock. The more rogue nations with nuclear capability the better, the neocons apparently believe -- gives them the excuse to escalate U.S. militarism.

Stay tuned for further disasters brought to you by bush and his boyfriends (and his girlfriend, Condi) and their failed foreign policies. Reckless is their middle name.

HOMELAND SECURITY CONTRACTS ABUSED -- Extensive waste (and fraud and incompetence and cronyism and secrets and lies?????)

"...Davis said the department has a critical mission. "Unfortunately, its acquisition structure and workforce challenges . . . betray serious weaknesses that are impeding the ability of DHS to protect the homeland," he said. Davis's committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Homeland Security contracting today.

Still, others noted that it remains early in the department's history and that problems are to be expected...."

Title: Israeli bombing causes oil spill

URL Source: http://cedarseed.livejournal.com/
Published: Jul 26, 2006

From Al Safir

"Israel's offensive on Lebanon has resulted in an environmental disaster of catastrophic proportions. An oil leak from the recently bombed Jiyeh power station has covered Lebanon's coastline in 15,000 tons of fuel oil reaching Chekka in the north (meaning that the spill has spread up to 100 kilometers in length). Lebanon does not have the means to clean an oil spill of this size and as such has enlisted the help of Kuwait in the hopes of stopping it from spreading any further. The Ministry of Environment has issued a statement saying that the oil spill will take decades to clean and will destroy marine life and Lebanon's tourism, as well as cause a number of skin and lung diseases. One of the plant's oil tanks is still on fire and a further 25,000 tons of fuel oil are feared to leak out into the sea. The oil has already polluted all rocks, sandy beaches, ports and resorts. Fisherman and swimmers are to instructed to completely avoid Lebanon's beaches."

Since when is it our job to rebuild other countries?

Maybe if we would quit blasting them back to the second century in the first place.....

Americans should be ashamed of the mess our so-called leaders have made in the world, witness the leftovers of a neocon sociopathic inquisition that through the ineptitude of our elected officials, continues today.

I really hope our psyco leaders get the bullets they deserve, for the bullets they have given.

Who recieved the fatest contracts in rebuilding Iraq?
H.A.L.I.B.U.R.T.O.N. Dick Chaineys own little toy.

What is a semite? Here it comes:
Around 5000 years ago, the first cities started to emerge in the area between the rivers Eufrat and Tigris (todays Iraq). The citizens in this cities was called Sumer. This comunities became rich in trading all sorts of goods, and as time went on, nomades originated from the Arab peninsula, drifted to this populated areas and settled outside the cities. They also started trading, along with their traditional sheep herding. These nomades claimed that they were the direct decentants from Sem, the son of Noah. They called themselves: Semites.
After a thousand years or so, they spread out through the whole Midle East.
I don`t know when some of them started to call themselves jews, and other called themselves arabs. This has to do with religion, and in that matter I`m far from being an expert.
If we look at the situation today, the Jews in Israel is by a large number a mixture of Europeans and various Nations around the world.
Conclusion: The purest semites today is the Arabs. They have always been in the Midle East area, not wandring around for 2000 years like the Jews.
The term Antisemite emerged in the 1880`s when it labeled the socalled Progoms against Jews in Eastern Europe.
I`m not against either Jews or Arabs, BUT I`m strongly against the state of Israels behaviour in the area, both towards the Palestinians and the Lebanese people.
I also strongly oppose to what Hezbollah is doing. They are putting fuel to the conflict.
A lebanese told me yesterday that this is a war between the US and Iran, but it`s being fought by Israel and Hezbollah.
Condo Rice: We let them fight on for the time being, hopefully Israel will erase Hezbollah. She did`nt actually say these words, but this is what Bushco wants.

Hope this was clearifying.

US Blocks UN Security Council From Condemning Israel Strike On UN Post
Source: Associated Press
UNITED NATIONS (AP)--The U.S. blocked the U.N. Security Council from issuing a statement that would have condemned Israel's bombing of a U.N. post on the Lebanon border that killed four military observers.

U.S. diplomats refused to comment and U.S. Ambassador John Bolton was in Washington preparing for a new confirmation hearing before the Senate. But several diplomats said the U.S. objected to one paragraph, which said the council "condemns any deliberate attack against U.N. personnel and emphasizes that such attacks are unacceptable."

Earlier Wednesday, Bolton had said that the thrust of a council statement should be to express regret, send condolences and support an investigation to find out exactly what happened - not "to make it a back door to get into other political and military questions."

After several hours of negotiations that ran late into the evening, the council gave up on a statement addressing the Tuesday bombing of the U.N. post and agreed to come back tomorrow.

Erling Krange, those facts mean nothing to the paid Zionist schills who haunt cyberspace making sick excuses for the behavior of Israel. Hezbollah is wrong to shoot missiles into civilian populated neighborhoods, but as I said yesterday, there would be no Hezbollah if Israel obeyed the laws they expect everyone else to obey. This double standard is creating more enemies for Israel by the day.

Interesting when we get the thoughts and opinions of people not mired in the muck of "Murkun" culture.

I got a call from my Helsinki Pal this morning! I haven't heard his voice in about 10 years, but we've traded e-mail and cards quite frequently.

Among other things he wanted to know what I thought about Bush's "neck rub" of Merkle.

I told him what I thought, but when I told him that most of America just kinda srugged it off, he was astounded. Such stupidity by a foreign leader made front-page news in Finland and Bush's obvious disregard for anything resembling decorum and respect is still talked about.

"Every time Bush does something else dangerously stupid, I get asked to explain it." he said.

I guess he must stay pretty busy ...

I have a novel idea. Why don't we give Shalom a try?

Shalom

Here is what America and the world need in order to attain peace and justice on our planet for all of God's children. Here is also what I believe God wants for His children and His vision for the world.

Shalom translated means peace but it is much more than peace. Shalom is a vision of social wholeness; a state of well being for all, where everyone has access to the goods of creation intended to meet the needs of all. Shalom is the substance of the biblical vision of one community embracing all creation where all enjoy the resources that make communal harmony joyous and effective.

Shalom is nothing less than God's intended vision of the world, a dream of God that resists our tendencies for division, hostility, fear, lust, and misery. If there is to be well-being, it will not be just for the isolated and insulated individuals, it is security and prosperity granted to the whole community - the poor, the widow, the orphan, the immigrant, the tax collector and the sinner, the despised and the rejected, young and old, the have and the have nots, the powerful and the dependent. We are in it together. Together we stand before God's blessings and together we receive the gift of life. Shalom comes only to the inclusive embracing community that excludes no one.

Cabinet Calls Up Three Divisions of Reserve Troops Amid Ongoing Conflict
________________
The call-up, which could involve tens of thousands of reservists, underscored Israel's belief that Hezbollah's July 12 cross-border raid was designed to spark a wider war in the Middle East.

"We don't need these troops to attack, but to train," said an Israeli official familiar with the cabinet decision. "We need to be ready in case something happens in Syria or elsewhere."

The reserves are scheduled to be called up in the coming days, the official said. He estimated that the last reserve call-up of this size was during the 2002 Israeli operation in the West Bank at the height of the most recent Palestinian uprising.

"...Also Thursday, Israel's justice minister, Haim Ramon, told Army Radio that the statement Wednesday from an international conference in Rome that did not call for an immediate cease-fire, was effectively "permission" for Israel to continue its offensive.

"We received yesterday in the Rome conference permission, in effect, from the world, part of it gritting its teeth and part of it granting its blessing, to continue the operation, this war, until Hezbollah's presence is erased in Lebanon and it is disarmed," Ramon was quoted as saying.

The conference, attended by foreign ministers from 18 nations, called "urgently" for a cease-fire but accompanied the call with language supporting the U.S. view that a cessation should be preceded by some sort of settlement that would make the peace enduring..."

http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/LCSN/Eq/20010911_wtc.html

the official data readings from Lamont-Doherty give the following seismic events:

time 9:02:54: 0.7 Richter, signal duration 6 seconds [reported as second impact, WTC2]

Conclusion:

Two notable seismic events occurred before the planes ever hit the towers and were so close timewise to the actual impacts of the planes that Lamont-Doherty reported them as the impacts. The logical conclusion (which coincides with many eyewitnesses in the basements, e.g., William Rodriquez) is that these were explosives detonated to coincide with the aircraft hitting the towers. They were very close to getting the timing right. This is one time I'm going to believe the gov't; I think their times are correct, down to the second!...

Mr. Bush, What about Israel's defiance of UN Resolutions?

As we watched your speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 12, 2002, we were struck by the ironic proximity of the Israeli and Iraqi delegations. Ironic, because many of the accusations you leveled against Iraq could, with ample justification, be directed toward Israel.

In 2002, all the Arab nations agreed to the right of Israel to exist, and to establish normal diplomatic relations with Israel, one just one condition only; that Israel finally implement
UN Security Council Resolution 242, passed in 1967.

Israel refused.

Jeanne, micki, and Cornposters, I have just emailed a letter to the Catholic News Servce. I do not know if the service will print the letter. Still, I would like to share it with you.

Dear Editor: The Catholic News Service has an article titled, "Bishops say they are ready to work for lasting peace." It is dated July 28, 2006. Robert Delaney has also contributed to the story. Bishop Thomas G. Wenski has called upon the United States to "exert greater leadership with all parties to the conflicts and to work more intensely and multilaterally to end the provocations and violence, to secure a cease-fire, to restrain Israel, to move toward negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians, to bring about security for Israel and a viable state for the Palestinians, and to ensure the independence of Lebanon." All these goals are lofty, noble, and worthwhile for peace in the Middle East.

While the bishops were calling upon the United States to exert more influence in the area, the American government first gave Israel one week to bomb, than the government has increased the timeline to two weeks and now it is three weeks. I even read where the United States is planning to send military forces into Lebanon. How can the United States of America exert leadership and influence in the area when the perception is that the American leadership is aiding and abetting in the disproportionate killing of Lebanese civilians by the Israeli army?

What all nations need to understand that we are all God's children? When I stand for the Liturgy of the Eucharist to pray the Our Father, I am reminded by the words, "Our Father" that we are all brothers and sisters in God. It is my hope and prayer that the American Catholic bishops can let all know in some influential way that we are both God's children and brothers and sisters in God.

Sincerely, Gerald

The US: Too late for empire

President George W Bush sent US troops into Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD), but they weren't there. He said Saddam Hussein's regime had given help to al-Qaeda, but it had not.

He therefore took the nation to war on the basis of falsehoods.

His administration says the torture at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and elsewhere has been the work of a few bad apples in the military, whereas in fact abuses were sanctioned at the highest levels of the executive branch in secret memos.

His administration lambastes leakers, but its own officials illegally leaked the name of a Central Intelligence Agency operative, Valerie Plame, to discredit her husband politically.

He flatly stated to the public that all wiretaps of Americans were ordered pursuant to court warrants, whereas in fact he was authorizing and repeatedly reauthorizing warrantless wiretaps. These wiretaps violated a specific law of Congress forbidding them.

His administration has asserted a right to imprison Americans as well as foreigners indefinitely without the habeas corpus hearings required by law.

Wars of aggression, torture, domestic spying and arbitrary arrest are the hallmarks of dictatorship, yet Congress, run by the president's party, has refused to conduct full investigations into either the false WMD claims, or the abuses and torture, or the warrantless wiretaps, or the imprisonment without habeas corpus.

When Congress passed a bill forbidding torture and the president signed it, he added a "signing statement" implying a right to disregard its provisions when they conflicted with his interpretation of his powers.

Why is it that people keep repeating false information concerning the events of 9-11 in New York? I just don't get it.

Here's the truth which refutes Mr. redlights assertion:

From Popular Mechanics "Debunking the Myths"

***********************************************
Seismic Spikes
CLAIM: Seismographs at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., 21 miles north of the WTC, recorded the events of 9/11. "The strongest jolts were all registered at the beginning of the collapses, well before falling debris struck the earth," reports the Web site WhatReallyHappened.com.

A columnist on Prisonplanet.com, a Web site run by radio talk show host Alex Jones, claims the seismic spikes (boxed area on Graph 1) are "indisputable proof that massive explosions brought down" the towers. The Web site says its findings are supported by two seismologists at the observatory, Won-Young Kim and Arthur Lerner-Lam. Each "sharp spike of short duration," says Prisonplanet.com, was consistent with a "demolition-style implosion."

FACT: "There is no scientific basis for the conclusion that explosions brought down the towers," Lerner-Lam tells PM. "That representation of our work is categorically incorrect and not in context."

The report issued by Lamont-Doherty includes various graphs showing the seismic readings produced by the planes crashing into the two towers as well as the later collapse of both buildings. WhatReallyHappened.com chooses to display only one graph (Graph 1), which shows the readings over a 30-minute time span.

On that graph, the 8- and 10-second collapses appear--misleadingly--as a pair of sudden spikes. Lamont-Doherty's 40-second plot of the same data (Graph 2) gives a much more detailed picture: The seismic waves--blue for the South Tower, red for the North Tower--start small and then escalate as the buildings rumble to the ground. Translation: no bombs.

**********************************************

End of excerpt.

Get a grip, folks. There was no conspiracy. No bombs. Just 2 very large commercial aircraft that fateful day!

No security clearances revoked over Plame

WASHINGTON --No one in the Bush administration has been stripped of security clearances over the leak of former CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity to reporters three years ago.

In a letter to Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., the CIA said it had no record of anyone in the administration who is no longer privy to the nation's most sensitive secrets because of the Plame leak.

The CIA also revealed it has not yet completed a formal assessment of the damage to national security that may have been caused by Plame's outing in 2003.

The assessment won't be completed until a criminal investigation of the leak has been concluded, Christopher J. Walker, the CIA's director of congressional affairs, said in the July 19 letter to Lautenberg.

For more than a year, Lautenberg and other Democrats have been calling on President Bush to fire presidential adviser Karl Rove and any other aides who discussed Plame's CIA status with reporters -- or, at the least, to revoke their security clearances.

Here is the liar telling more lies:

BUSH THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF SAID HE'D FIRE ANYONE FOR LEAKING, THAT NOBODY WAS INVOLVED.

Asked in June 2004 if he'd stand by his pledge to fire anyone found to have leaked, Bush replied "yes." [Bush Press Conference: Savannah, GA, 6/10/04]

When the White House was asked specifically whether Karl Rove, Elliot Abrams or Lewis Libby told any reporter that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said: "Those individuals -- I talked -- I spoke with those individuals, as I pointed out, and those individuals assured me they were not involved in this. And that's where it stands." [White House Briefing, 10/10/03]

"I don't know of anybody in my administration who leaked classified information. If somebody did leak classified information, I'd like to know it, and we'll take the appropriate action." [Bush Remarks: Chicago, Illinois, 9/30/03]

"The President has set high standards, the highest of standards for people in his administration. He's made it very clear to people in his administration that he expects them to adhere to the highest standards of conduct. If anyone in this administration was involved in it, they would no longer be in this administration." [White House Briefing, 9/29/03]

Is the President a Pathological Liar?

Bush's unhealthy relationship with reality

[..]

What then could account for Bush's truth-defying assertion about the Taliban? After all, it was a statement ridiculously easy to disprove. (The Bush bashers of Moveon.org immediately sent out a mass e-mail citing this remark as further evidence that Bush is a misleader.) Was Bush really trying to hornswoggle the troops and the American people? In a way. I assume that had he bothered to think about this line, he probably would have realized that it was inaccurate and that there was no reason to claim the Taliban was stone-cold dead when he could have truthfully declared that the U.S. military (under his command) and its Afghan allies had routed the Taliban. It was not as if Bush said to himself, Aha! I know what I'll do. I will boast that I eliminated the Taliban even though anyone who follows this stuff knows a Taliban resurgence is under way and fool people into believing I am winning the war on terrorism.

Bush was more likely engaged in the deceit of triumphalism ignoring facts and saying whatever sounds good to juice up the public. It was hype, extreme rhetoric, utterly divorced from events on the ground. This statement was a report from Planet Bush, not the world as it exists a demonstration of Bush's penchant to embrace (and peddle) self-serving fantasy over the obvious truth.

The dishonesty underlying the Taliban line was transparent. In the same speech, Bush also practiced (yet again) a more nuanced form of dissembling. He told the crowd that the war on terrorism began with 9/11, and that "we will not rest until we bring these committed killers to justice. These terrorists will not be stopped by negotiations, or by appeals to reason, or by the least hint of conscience . . . We must, and we will continue to, take the fight to the enemy." So far so good: The terrorists who mounted the 9/11 attacks are bad and must be defeated. Then Bush distorted the picture: "Terrorists need places to hide, to plot and to train, so we're holding their allies, the allies of terror, to account." And he cited Afghanistan and Iraq.

Yes, Bush lied

A year ago, on Oct. 1, one of the most important documents in U.S. history was published and couriered over to the White House.

The 90-page, top-secret report, drafted by the National Intelligence Council at Langley, included an executive summary for President Bush known as the "key judgments." It summed up the findings of the U.S. intelligence community regarding the threat posed by Iraq, findings the president says formed the foundation for his decision to preemptively invade Iraq without provocation. The report "was good, sound intelligence," Bush has remarked.

Most of it deals with alleged weapons of mass destruction.
But page 4 of the report, called the National Intelligence Estimate, deals with terrorism, and draws conclusions that would come as a shock to most Americans, judging from recent polls on Iraq. The CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency and the other U.S. spy agencies unanimously agreed that Baghdad:

had not sponsored past terrorist attacks against America,

mr. tim @34, the seismic jolts discussed @27 are a separate event from the seismic jolts that occurred just at the beginning of each tower's destruction. the point that 27 makes is that the alleged planes hit the towers approximately 15 seconds later than the seismic jolts from their alleged impacts were recorded.
-----
as for the seismic jolts that occurred as each tower exploded, they were much more powerful @ magnitude 2.1 and 2.3 respectively.
there are some lovely photos of these explosions that can be seen here, as well as a presentation that concludes that the explanations of the collapse that have been given by the 9/11 Commission Report and NIST are not physically possible. A new investigation is needed to determine the true cause of what happened to these buildings on September 11, 2001. The "collapse" of all three WTC buildings may be considered the greatest engineering disaster in the history of the world and deserves a thorough investigation.
-----
the very instant that NIST steps forward and explains why their explanation of the wtc demise has been determined to be false i will desist. until that happens, you, popular mechanics and the moronic "Debunking the Myths" including any advisors and editors of said moronics that may consider themselves free to kiss my ass.

Gerald, thank you for sharing your letter to CNS with us. I hope it is published. You asked me once to post the following now and then. I thought today would be a good time to re-post, because an individual signing as"trish" seems to have a distorted understanding of what a liberal is. I hope this clarifies his/her misunderstanding.

Liberalism is an optimistic philosophy, one that espouses that all things are possible (well, many things...) Liberals believe that freedom means many things -- liberals believe in the free exchange of ideas. Liberals believe that progress is good and that progress can lead to a better life for all humanity.

Liberals believe that the rule of law is the basic framework for a workable society, a society with justice. When crimes are committed, there should be punishment. Liberals believe that the Rule of Law applies to all -- including government agents.

Liberals believe in CIVIL RIGHTS, that all people are equal under the law. We believe in a free and civil society where there is NO room for any type of discrimination based on enthicity, religion, race, disability, sexual orientation or gender.

Liberals believe that all Americans should have access to a basic education -- and that education should be consistent with maintaining an informed citizenry.

Liberals believe in tolerance of differences -- and we must respect those differences as long as life choices do not infringe on the rights enjoyed by other citizens.

Liberals believe in a social safety net, nat as a permanent lifestyle but as a helping hand when it is needed.

Liberals believe that each one of us is responsible for our actions. Liberals believe that with rights come responsibility.

Liberals believe that the relationship between an employer and an employee is part of the "glue" that holds communities together.

Liberals believe that environmental protection is the responsibility of all citizens. Liberals believe that it is possible to protect the environment and sustain economic growth -- they are not mutually exclusive.

Liberals believe in strong families. Liberals believe that when government makes policy it should keep in mind that families are the most important social unit in America.

Many of us are proud to call ourselves LIBERAL. Thanks to liberalism, our country has achieved some pretty remarkable things -- even though the Reichwingers are now doing everything within their corrupt power to dismantle/decimate many of them. Americans have benefitted from the following -- all of which had their genesis in LIBERALISM:

GI Bill
era: 1950's

Labor Laws
era: 1930's-present

Marshall Plan
era: late 1940's-1950's

Environmental Laws
era: 1970's-present

Food safety laws
era: 1910's-present

Workplace safety laws
era: 1930's-present

Social Security
era: 1930's-to present

Economic Growth
era: 1950's-1960's
Liberalism and economic prosperity go hand-in-hand. Unlike the pseudo-boom of the 1980's, the 1950's and 1960's were a period of sustained and real growth for all sectors of the economy and all social classes. Taxes were fair, government worked, and America prospered under both Democratic and Republican administrations

Space Program
era: 1950's-present

Peace corps
era: 1960's-present

Civil rights movement
era: 1950's-present

The fight against Totalitarianism
era: always

The Internet
era: 1960's-present
Not a liberal program per se, but rather a government one, which many equate as the same thing. The internet is a good example of what a government program can do when allowed to work.

The Tennessee Valley project
era: 1930's

Women's right to vote
era: 1920's-present

Universal Public Education
era: 1890's-present

National Weather Service
era: 1930's-present

Scientific Research
era: 1940's-present
Much of the great discoveries in science have come about through grants from the government. This is not to say that scientific genius depends on Washington, but the fact remains that pure science is expensive, and private industry will often not fund experiments which don't have a direct commercial potential. From Salk's polio vaccine to todays Human Genome Project and Hubble Space Telescope, the government is an important partner in scientific discovery.

Product Labeling/Truth in Advertising Laws
era: 1910's-present

Public Health
era: 1910's-present

Morrill Land Grant Act
era: late 1800's
This act is the reason why nearly every state in the Union has a large public university. These centers of learning have educated untold millions of Americans. If you went to a school with a state name in it, then you were helped by liberalism.

capt,

A little poem for you. Hopefully you will see your rationale for name calling needs to be rethought.

................

When you call a man a despicable name, because, you think that he's thinking wrong,

You've now just become the despicable man, may be you who was wrong all along.

As wrong as you think that the man is now thinking, as wrong as you think he may be,

It may be you who has done all the wrong thinking, It may well be you and not he.

I know that all this is not quite to your liking, I know you don't want to agree, But if you are the man who has done the wrong thinking, your names are for you and not he.

We all can be right and we all can be wrong and we all can just plain disagree,

But if you must insist, you can never be wrong, your bad names are for you, can't you see?

#41 micki, people need to see and read what a liberal is! My wife is out having lunch with her neocon sisters who live in a brain-dead state. Unless a person meets everyone of their criteria, you are not good, holy, and saintly. Yet, it is my perceptual opinion that they are complicit in mass murders and war crimes but they still believe that they are good, holy, and saintly. I do not consider them evil but one sister is an avid listener to Rush Limbaugh and the other sister is an avid viewer of O'Reilly and Hannity. After years of listening to these three Nazis I believe that my sisters-in-laws are subtly hateful people.

Just for clarity, the 9/11 Commission wasn't tasked to describe how or why the towers collapsed, but NIST was. Here's their final report that came out last month. As Dr. B. said, the report on #7 will come out later.

Final Reports of the Federal Building and Fire
Investigation of the World Trade Center Disaster

This is the final report on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) investigation of the collapse of the World Trade Center (WTC) towers, conducted under the National Construction Safety Team Act. This report describes how the aircraft impacts and subsequent fires led to the collapse of the towers after terrorists flew jet fuel laden commercial airliners into the buildings; whether the fatalities were low or high, including an evaluation of the building evacuation and emergency response procedures; what procedures and practices were used in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the towers; and areas in current building and fire codes, standards, and practices that warrant revision.

Extensive details are found in the 42 companion reports. (The final report on the collapse of WTC 7 will appear in a separate report.) Also in this report is a description of how NIST reached its conclusions. NIST complemented in-house expertise with private sector technical experts; accumulated copious documents, photographs, and videos of the disaster; established baseline performance of the WTC towers; performed computer simulations of the behavior of each tower on September 11, 2001; combined the knowledge gained into a probable collapse sequence for each tower; conducted nearly 1,200 first-person interviews of building occupants and emergency responders; and analyzed the evacuation and emergency response operations in the two high-rise buildings.

For the Republican controlled congress to conduct a thorough investigation of a crime it must involve a blow job. A push for an investigation by them must include a cigar, a Monica Lewinsky and a President that they want to destroy to ask serious questions.

Issues like invading another country based on lies, false pre-war intelligence, tens of thousands of dead as a direct consequence of those lies, illegal wiretapping, fraud. No No NO, for them to take anything seriously it must involve a blow job. That was an issue that really mattered to these fucks.

The 81-year-old father of U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman [(R-MN)] was cited for lewd conduct and indecent exposure Tuesday for allegedly having sex in a vehicle with a 38-year-old woman, according to a police report. Police responded to a call early Tuesday evening and arrested Norman Bertram Coleman Sr. and the woman, Patrizia Marie Schrag of St. Paul, outside a pizza restaurant on the eastern edge of downtown St. Paul.

Sen. Coleman has often referred to his father, a veteran of the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge and a former businessman, as one of his personal heroes.

Feds OK Mass. Universal Health Insurance

The federal government has given its approval to a first-in-the-nation program in Massachusetts that will require everyone to carry health insurance, officials announced Wednesday.

The state's universal health insurance program will use a combination of subsidies and penalties to make coverage more affordable and to encourage people to buy it.

"Our ability to now insure every Massachusetts citizen is a historic achievement for both the commonwealth and the nation," Gov. Mitt Romney said in a statement.

Romney, a Republican considering a 2008 White House campaign, signed the state's new health care law in April, and since then it has been under review by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., lauded the announcement.

"Instead of facing health care cuts, we're well on our way to achieving our longstanding goal of health care for all."

Bush Foreign Policy Struggling

``This president has a very firm world view that is not about to be changed by facts or realities. There are good guys and bad guys,'' said Ivo Daalder, who was director of European affairs in the National Security Council in the Clinton administration.

``Right now, Israelis are the good guys and Hezbollah, Syria and Iran are the bad guys,'' said Daalder, now a fellow with the Brookings Institution. Action & Activism
Dublin "Die-in" in support of Lebanon and Palestine
Hugh Harkin, The Electronic Intifada, 26 July 2006

25 July 2006 Ñ The Israeli Embassy in Dublin was confronted on Tuesday with the death and destruction that it has wrought in Gaza and Lebanon in recent weeks. During its all-day vigil at the Israeli embassy, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) held a symbolic "die-in", in which Irish, Lebanese and Palestinian volunteers donned "blood"-stained clothes and lay down on the street in front of the embassy. All Irish local and national media were present and gave the protest prominent coverage across the day and in Wednesday's newspapers. The demonstration was a prelude to a major march taking place in Dublin this coming Saturday 29th.

The IPSC "die-in" was co-ordinated with another demonstration organised by the Lebanese and Palestinian communities in Ireland, who marched from Dublin city centre out to the embassy, twenty minutes away in Ballsbridge, and were supported by recent Irish evacuees from Lebanon, and by former Irish Defence Forces personnel who had served with the U.N. there.

(Irish Defence Forces best not to be confused with those other, less convincingly named I.D.F...)

Over two hundred protestors began the march on Dublin's Dame Street, and received a superb reception all along the route. This heartening response from the Irish public was echoed in loud beeps throughout the day at the Israeli embassy, as IPSC volunteers, waving Lebanese and Palestinian flags, held up placards asking motorists to "beep for Lebanon and Palestine". A constant barrage of car-horns hopefully prevented embassy staff from working the hasbara machine, for one day at least.

In any case, Tuesday suggested a very solid support for Lebanon and Palestine among the Irish public. A number of Lebanese and Palestinian protestors were taken aback at the level of solidarity shown them by Irish citizens at this time. Even some long-term activists were surprised at the overwhelmingly supportive response from the public. While the majority of Irish people tend to be sympathetic towards Palestinians, like much of "the West", many suffer from having been nurtured into confusion by Israeli myth and mendacity.

Debunking Republican thoughts about Democrats.

The reason, as thought by some conservatives, our Democrat politicians do not vote for Republican ideas, is not because Democrats are stupid.

It is simply because our Democrat politicians do not want anything positive to happen on Bush's watch.

The reason the American Democrat politicians and all left wing liberals are actively supporting and aiding AlQuaeda, Hezbollah and Hamas here and abroad, is because, if they are successful in subverting any success America would achieve under a Republican administration, it gives them a better chance to achieve the only thing they really want, which is personal political and financial gain.

Democrat politicians do not vote for Republican ideas, because Democrats are stupid, they do not vote for Republican ideas because Democrat politicians and all left wing liberals are self absorbed and corrupt. It is just that simple.

The New Middle East
------------

I see the hatred only escalating!
------------

But Israel is not sacrificing its soldiers and citizens only to please the Bush administration. The "new Middle East" has been a dream of the Israeli ruling military circles since at least 1982, when Sharon led the country to the first Lebanon war with precisely this declared goal. Hezbollah's leaders have argued for years that its real long-term role is to protect Lebanon, whose army is too weak to do this. They have said that Israel has never given up its aspirations for Lebanon and that the only reason it pulled out of Southern Lebanon in 2000 is because Hezbollah's resistance has made maintaining the occupation too costly. Lebanon's people know what every Israeli old enough to remember knows - that in the vision of Ben Gurion, Israel's founding leader, Israel's border should be "natural", that is - the Jordan river in the East, and the Litani river of Lebanon in the north. In 1967, Israel gained control over the Jordan river, in the occupied Palestinian land, but all its attempts to establish the Litani border have failed so far.

As I argued in Israel/Palestine, already when the Israeli army left southern Lebanon in 2000, the plans to return were ready.[12] But in Israel's military vision, in the next round, the land should be first "cleaned" of its residents, as Israel did when it occupied the Syrian Golan Heights in 1967, and as it is doing now in southern Lebanon. To enable Israel's eventual realization of Ben Gurion's vision, it is necessary to establish a "friendly regime" in Lebanon, one that will collaborate in crushing any resistance. To do this, it is necessary first to destroy the country, as in the U.S. model of Iraq. These were precisely Sharon's declared aims in the first Lebanon war. Israel and the U.S. believe that now conditions have ripened enough that these aims can finally be realized.
-----------
I do not ever seeing the hatred subsiding. The Our Father is meaningless to Christians; Shalom will never be implemented; and The Formula for justice and peace is totally shattered and shredded forever. My dream of a world of justice and peace is no longer viable. Only nightmares will prevail!

All that I can pray for is for God to have mercy on my soul. I see a living hell for America and the world.

Another Newspaper Decides to Drop Ann Coulter's Column

NEW YORK Following on the heels of daily papers in Augusta, Ga., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a weekly in Greensboro, N.C., has decided to drop Ann Coulter's regular column, distributed by Universal.

"Yes! Weekly", which has carried the conservative firebrand since last August, announced the move after polling its readers, among other considerations. She will be replaced by another conservative, William F. Buckley.

This follows the pattern at the other papers that had dropped Coulter, where she was replaced by conservatives Michelle Malkin in one case, David Limbaugh in the other.

A fourth paper, the Shreveport (La.) Times, has said it is strongly considering dropping Coulter.

An editorial in the current issue of "Yes! Weekly" explains: "Ann Coulter is gone from these pagesÉ gone like the leaves in December, like the fringes of the polar ice caps, like the last vestiges of Tom Cruise's rational mind.

What an interview at Democracy Now. Go Amy Goodman..

US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton has blocked a Security Council resolution condemning Israel's killing of four UN observers in Lebanon. UN commanders say that Israel ignored 10 calls to stop attacking the UN base. Meanwhile, the Senate holds confirmation hearings for Bolton today. We're joined by author Phylis Bennis. [includes rush transcript]

On Tuesday, four UN peacekeeping troops died in an Israeli airstrike in Khiam in southern Lebanon. UN commanders say their outpost came under attack for hours and that Israel ignored 10 calls to stop. By the time the assault ended peacekeeping troops from Canada, Finland, China and Austria had died.

Israel is denying its troops were targeting the UN. But the Consul General of Israel in New York, has accused the UN troops of being sympathetic to Hezbollah.

Last week interim U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton dismissed calls for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, and today the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is holding hearings on BoltonÕ³ nomination to become U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Last year President Bush gave Bolton a recess appointment after he failed to win enough support in the Senate.

Israel threatens to flatten border villages

BEIRUT: A day after it lost nine soldiers in fighting with theHizbollah, Israel on Thursday threatened to flatten entire villages in southern Lebanon with air strikes and shelling before committing its ground troops.

At a Cabinet meeting, Israel decided to reinforce air strikes but not to expand ground operations.

Ahead of the meeting, Israeli Justice Minister Haim Ramon said: "All those now in south Lebanon are terrorists who are related in some way to the Hezbollah."

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), civilians were trapped in the battle zone. In Bilda village alone, near the embattled Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil, there were 300 children among 700 people who had taken refuge in a mosque.

Wm Buckley jumped from the Bush right wing radical ship a while back. His articles at National Review are insightful.
One Flag Too High
By William F. Buckley Jr.

President Bush is a victim of his idealistic certitudes. These have their place. It is hard to imagine how Great Britain would have survived the year 1942 without Churchill's apocalyptic reassurances, never mind that, when they were spoken, they must have been the cause of laughter in the Nazi high command, which brought them in via radio antennas sitting on top of the Eiffel Tower. The problem has been that without Bush's high calls for global political reform, the American public would have gone along only reluctantly with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. And enthusiasm for these wars is now flagging because we have assured ourselves that we aren't there to choke off nuclear arms development. We are there to save the locals from the kind of government they would have if left to their own resources.

Official: Hezbollah
used U.N. as 'shield'

Observer killed in strike wrote e-mail
contradicting accusation against Israel

United Nations flag flies with Hezbollah banner at U.N. post (photo: Canadian Jewish News)
The United Nations post in Lebanon at the center of controversy over a deadly Israeli attack likely was being used as a "shield" by Hezbollah to fire rockets into the Jewish state, according to a former U.N. commander in Bosnia.

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan has accused Israel of deliberately targeting the post where four officials of the world body were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanese village of El Khiam Tuesday night.

But retired Maj.-Gen. Lewis MacKenzie points to an e-mail by one of the observers killed in the attack that backs Israel's claim that it was targeting Hezbollah, reported the CanWest News Service of Canada.

The dead observer, Maj. Paeta Hess-von Kruedener, wrote an e-mail last week to the Canadian television network CTV that alluded to Hezbollah's tactics.

"What I can tell you is this, we have on a daily basis had numerous occasions where our position has come under direct or indirect fire from both (Israeli) artillery and aerial bombing.
"The closest artillery has landed within 2 meters (sic) of our position and the closest 1000 lb aerial bomb has landed 100 meters (sic) from our patrol base. This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity."

MacKenzie said Hess-von Kruedener was indicating Israeli strikes were aimed at Hezbollah targets near the post, the Canadian news service reported.

"What that means is, in plain English, 'We've got Hezbollah fighters running around in our positions, taking our positions here and then using us for shields and then engaging the (Israeli Defence Forces)," he said.

McKenzie said this indicates Hezbollah purposely set itself up near the U.N. post, a tactic he observed in previous international missions. McKenzie was the first U.N. commander in Sarajevo during the Bosnia civil war, CanWest reported.

The U.N. has claimed there was no Hezbollah activity in the area of the strike.

From his U.N. post, however, Hess-von Kruedener wrote he had a view of the "Hezbollah static positions in and around our patrol Base."

"It appears that the lion's share of fighting between the IDF and Hezbollah has taken place in our area," he wrote, noting later it was too dangerous to venture out on patrols.

A senior U.N. official asked by CanWest about the e-mail denied the world body had been caught in a contradiction.

"At the time, there had been no Hezbollah activity reported in the area," he said. "So it was quite clear they were not going after other targets; that, for whatever reason, our position was being fired upon.

"Whether or not they thought they were going after something else, we don't know. The fact was, we told them where we were. They knew where we were. The position was clearly marked, and they pounded the hell out of us."

UN backs off claim no Hezbollah activity near peacekeepers' base

CanWest News Service via National Post ^ | 2006-07-27 | Steven Edwards

UNITED NATIONS - The United Nations appeared to be caught in a contradiction Wednesday after the world body claimed there had been no Hezbollah activity in the vicinity of a peacekeeping base destroyed in an Israeli strike, killing four UN military observers, one of them Canadian. An e-mail written by Maj. Paeta Hess-von Kruedener, identified Wednesday by Prime Minister Stephen Harper as the dead Canadian, reveals Hezbollah was extremely active in the days and weeks before. The question of Hezbollah's infiltration of the area is significant because UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, speaking Tuesday just hours after the strike, accused...

Israel 'warned before UN attack' From correspondents in the United Nations 27-07-2006

From: Reuters THE United Nations said today it asked Israel a dozen times to stop bombing near a UN post in Lebanon in the hours before an Israeli air attack destroyed the position killing four peacekeepers. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan initially referred to yesterday's deadly Israeli strike as the "apparently deliberate targeting" of the Khiam UN observer post. But he softened his stance after talking with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who said he believed it was a mistake and would order an investigation."We await the...

HOPEWELL CAPE, N.B. Ñ Prime Minister Stephen Harper says IsraelÕs deadly attack on a UN observation post in Lebanon, which claimed the life of a Canadian soldier, was a Òterrible tragedyÓ and he doubts whether the bombing was deliberate. Harper, speaking to reporters after a funding announcement in eastern New Brunswick, said the Canadian military would consult with the UN and the Israeli government to find out what happened. The prime minister also said he wants to know why the post was still manned even though it was in the middle of an obvious war zone. Three other peacekeepers

UN official accuses Hezbollah of 'cowardly blending' among civilians (Hell freezes over)

LARNACA, Cyprus - The UN humanitarian chief accused Hezbollah late Monday of "cowardly blending" among Lebanese civilians and causing the deaths of hundreds during two weeks of cross-border violence with Israel. The militant group has built bunkers and tunnels near the Israeli border to shelter weapons and fighters, and its members easily blend in among civilians. Jan Egeland spoke with reporters at the Larnaca airport in Cyprus after a visit to Lebanon on his mission to coordinate an international aid effort.

Hatred-politics endanger Lieberman race THIS is no exaggeration: The soul of the Democratic Party - and possibly the future of civility in American politics - is on the line in the Aug. 8 Senate primary in Connecticut. Sen. Joe Lieberman, Conn., one of the last "liberal hawks" in the Democratic Party and a leader in efforts to find bipartisan solutions to America's problems, is being targeted for defeat by an emergent new left that's using savage, Internet-based attacks to push moderation out of politics. What God has to say about Israel:

TROUBLE IN THE HOLY LAND
'Psalm in a bog' linked to Israel's current war
Some say Scripture find in Ireland has meaning with present conflict

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Joe Kovacs

The "miraculous" find of ancient psalms in an Irish bog has some wondering if there's any special modern relevance, since the discovery dealt with the enemies of Israel attempting to destroy the nation.

Ancient book of psalms found in Irish bog by construction worker was opened to Psalm 83.

A construction worker in Ireland came across the ancient 20-page book dated to the years 800-1000 A.D. while driving his backhoe's shovel into the mud last week. Experts say it's impossible to say how the manuscript ended up there, but speculate it may have been lost in transit or dumped after a raid some 1,000 to 1,200 years ago.

The National Museum of Ireland issued a statement saying, "In discovery terms, this Irish equivalent to the Dead Sea Scrolls is being hailed by the museum's experts as the greatest find ever from a European bog."

"It is not so much the fragments themselves, but what they represent, that is of such staggering importance," said the museum's director, Pat Wallace. "In my wildest hopes, I could only have dreamed of a discovery as fragile and rare as this. It testifies to the incredible richness of the Early Christian civilization of this island and to the greatness of ancient Ireland."

Wallace called it a "miracle find," telling the Associated Press, "it's unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all, and then for it to be unearthed and spotted before it was destroyed is incalculably more amazing."

But it's the fact the book was discovered opened to Psalm 83 that is attracting attention across the globe.

The ancient psalm deals with a plea to God not to let the enemies of Israel eradicate God's chosen nation.

Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. (Psalm 83:1-4)
It then lists a number of Israel's ancient enemies bent on its destruction.

Stan Goodenough, a South African journalist living in Israel for the past 12 years calls the timing of the discovery "incredible."

For right now Israel's enemies are again united in their desire to "cut Israel off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more." They purpose to take for themselves the "pastures of God for a possession." And that they are in league Ð or in a confederacy Ð is clear.
From Gaza, supported by most of the Arab states, the violence is being directed by the Palestinian Arab terrorist groups: the PLO, Hamas, the Palestine Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine and the popular resistance Committees.

In the north, the Lebanese group [Hezbollah], supplied and enabled by Syria and the non-Arab but also Islamic Iran, is raining rockets down on Israel.

This, given the current situation, makes Psalm 83 a fascinating and fitting read, the ancient find nothing short of a phenomenon.

Goodenough points out the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947, just as the modern state of Israel was being formed.

The bog find was heralded by the museum on Tuesday, one day after a call for global prayer on behalf of Israel. Psalm 83 was one of three psalms recited at locations worldwide Tuesday at the request of the governing council of Israel's Chief Rabbinate.

Democratic Hopeful's Arrest Draws Media's Interest

By Steve Vogel
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, July 27, 2006; Page B05

It was the volume of media attention that a candidate hovering at 1 percent in the polls would normally welcome.

A stand of microphones and a row of television cameras and reporters awaited David B. Dickerson, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Maryland, at a news conference scheduled on his behalf yesterday afternoon in Towson.

But the reporters had not come to hear his views on Iraq or on health care. Instead, they had come to ask about his arrest Saturday on charges of second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault against his wife.

Dickerson, a 43-year-old resident of Baltimore County, stood silent and grim-faced, flanked by two lawyers. One of them, Craig Kadish, denounced the charges as "absolutely and utterly false."

Kadish said he could not discuss details of the allegations by Dickerson's 19-year-old wife, Anna, but said Dickerson is cooperating fully with the Baltimore County state's attorney's office.

"He will continue to campaign," Kadish said, adding that the candidate "believes not only in the political process, he believes in the legal process."

Dickerson met his future wife during a business trip he made to her homeland of Latvia when she was 16, according to a statement of charges filed in Baltimore County District Court. "He said, 'Call me when you're 18,' " Kadish said in a telephone interview yesterday. The couple married in June 2005 in Latvia and later moved to Sparks, Md. Marital problems began after Anna Dickerson became pregnant, Kadish said. "She didn't want to be a mother, she didn't want to be a wife," he said.

According to the charging document, Anna Dickerson told police that her husband would hold her on the ground, strike her in the face and force her to have intercourse, allegations that Dickerson's attorney denied. The couple's 2-month-old child is being cared for by Anna Dickerson's mother in Latvia, according to court records.

I love people! For me love is wishing the best for another person or persons. On a daily basis I say the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for my family and me and for any other person who is in need of the Holy Rosary and a Chaplet of Divine Mercy. I also pray to God to have mercy on me a sinner. An Act of Contrition and a Prayer for Spiritual Communion are also included in my daily prayers.

From time to time I say the prayer that is below.

I said a prayer

I said a prayer for you today and I know God must have heard
I felt the answer in my heart, although He spoke no word!
I didn't ask for wealth or fame I knew you wouldn't mind
I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind!
I asked that He'd be near you at the start of each new day to
Grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way!
I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small
But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all!

Bombings Hit Children Hardest

BEIRUT, Jul 24 (IPS) - About 55 percent of all casualties at the Beirut Government University Hospital are children of 15 years of age or less, hospital records show.

"This is worse than during the Lebanese civil war," Bilal Masri, assistant director of the hospital, one of Beirut's largest, told IPS Monday.

Not only are most of the patients children, but many of the injured have been brought in serious condition, he said. "Now we have a 30 percent fatality rate here in Beirut. That means that 30 percent of everyone hit by Israeli bombs are dying. It is a catastrophe."

The fatality rate was high, he said, "because the Israelis are using new kinds of bombs which can enter shelters. They are bombing the bomb shelters which are full of refugees."

Masri told IPS that he believed so many children were becoming casualties because of the "widespread and indiscriminate nature of the bombings" and because "children are least able to run away when the bombings commence."

The company's profit - which amounts to a cool $1,318 a second - is the second biggest ever reported by a U.S. company, behind only the $10.7 billion Exxon itself earned in the fourth quarter of 2005.

Great soul of power

For those who want to understand what is likely to lie ahead, it is of prime importance to look closely at the long-standing principles that animate the decisions and actions of the powerful in today's world, primarily the United States.

Though only one of three major power centres in economic and most other dimensions, it surpasses any power in history in its military dominance, which is rapidly expanding, and it can generally rely on the support of the second superpower, Europe, and Japan, the second largest industrial economy.

There is a clear doctrine on the general contours of US foreign policy. It reigns in Western journalism and almost all scholarship, even among critics of policies. The major theme is "American exceptionalism": the thesis that the US is unlike other great powers, past and present, because it has a "transcendent purpose": "the establishment of equality in freedom in America," and indeed throughout the world, since "the arena within which the US must defend and promote its purpose has become worldwide."

Two liberals for Bolton:

Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer May Back John Bolton

New York Senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer are "seriously reconsideringÓ their opposition to the nomination of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

The reason: With war raging in the Middle East, the two are facing increasing pressure from pro-Israel groups to forgo another Democratic filibuster against Bolton.

"Given the fact that we face a world today where every decision every day seems to count, we cannot allow any disruption in who plays the lead role in representing the United States," said Jack Rosen, chairman of the American Jewish Congress.

"This is not a time for a void. It is not a time to take away someone who's represented us well at the United Nations, putting aside for the moment any squabbles or disagreements with the administration."

Still waiting for the Bush twins to be sent to Iraq. Sheehan buys plot in Crawford with son's insurance money

By JACK DOUGLAS JR.STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

CRAWFORD -- As President Bush prepares to spend some vacation time at his ranch here, not all is peaceful within the peace movement that has doggedly criticized his war policies for the past year.

The Gold Star Families for Peace says on its Web site that its members will again flock to Crawford in August to protest Bush's wartime decisions. Leader Cindy Sheehan is again demanding to meet with the president -- a replay of a year ago -- garnering worldwide attention and making Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier, the most familiar face of anti-war protesters.

But Sheehan and Mark Mattlage, owner of the 1-acre property where protesters have been allowed to gather, have had a falling out over scheduling and increased costs for liability insurance.

So, Sheehan has purchased a 5-acre plot in Crawford, saying she did so with some of the insurance money she received after her son, Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq.

"We decided to
