Still Looking for the Smoking Gun in Iraq

I posted the below on my "Capital Games" column at www.thenation.com.

Doesn't the Republican chairman of the House intelligence committee read? In a Washington Post article by Walter Pincus in Friday's edition, Representative Peter Hoekstra, who has succeeded in pushing the Bush administration to start releasing some of the 2 million documents captured in Iraq, said,

Whether Saddam Hussein destroyed Iraq's weapons of mass destruction or hid or transferred them, the most important thing is that we discover the truth of what was happening in the country prior to the war.

Conservatives and war-backers have been howling for the release of all these documents because they believe--or hope--that they will contain a smoking-gun memo showing that Saddam had oodles of WMDs or was buddy-buddy with bin Laden. But so far, no soap. At least not from the first nine documents posted by the military. One actually shows that Iraqi intelligence in August 2002 was looking for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq. This suggests Zarqawi was not given office space in Baghdad by Saddam, which is what some war supporters practically have claimed.

Back to Hoekstra. He's suggesting that that wily ol' Saddam destroyed his WMDs or sent them to Syria minutes before the US invaded. But if Hoekstra had bothered to read either the report from David Kay or the one from Charles Duelfer--the two pro-war fellows who headed the postwar search for WMDs--he would know that both concluded there were no significant amounts of WMDs in Iraq before the war and that Iraq's WMDs program were moribund. So there was nothing to hide or destroy. But let's wish Hoekstra well as he looks at each and every one of the two million documents for killer evidence to support the discredited prewar case for war.

Bush Says Republicans Don't Fear Future (link)

On the heels of two republican presidencies and a longer-entrenched repulican congress, President Bush states the obvious: Republicans don't fear the future.

Well, since the republicans have altered policy to benefit corporations, shareholders, and the independently waelthy, they see a rosy future.

The idiots who vote republican while trying to earn a living wage will be screwed.

Sadly, though, they'll keep voting republican because they hate fags, niggers, jews, abortionists, single-mothers, sick people, and/or liberals, and they think funding a military is the path to freedom. THOSE republicans will be screwed just like all other Americans working for a living!

If you earn a wage or a salary and you vote republican, you are an idiot and you wouldn't know a personal value if it bit you on the nose!

HOW DO WE LOVE ST. PATRICK'S DAY?
BY KELLY-JANE COTTER

If you've no Irish blood in you at all (you dear, impoverished soul), then you might be saying to yourself, "What in the divil are all these people out celebratin'?"

Though, actually, you wouldn't wonder in those words exactly, being non-Irish to begin with, sure.

Officially, the shenanigans you see before your very eyes are in tribute to good St. Patrick on his feast day, March 17.

However, if we're honest, the reasons for drinking green beer and acting the hooligan are murky at best.

Better to remember the noble things given to the world by St. Patrick's far-flung people and the many reasons to be happy on his day. Here are 17 to start, in no particular order:

MR DAVID CORN:

What is the basis of the claim made by Lbby's defense lawyers regarding Valarie Plame's classified status when "the defense wishes to test that assertion'"?

"When drafting an indictment, or holding a press conference, or seeking to exclude Mr. Libby from the discovery process, the government asserts that Ms. Wilson's employment status was classified," the defense team wrote. "But when Mr. Libby seeks to test that assertion, the government reverses field." (link)

To neophyte me, it doesn't pass muster as an actual legal argument. It sounds like a meme proferred for public consumption.

Will we be able to rid our government of these criminal PNAC neo-cons?

When will the corrupt foriegn policy strategy of diplomacy being pre-empted by war be rejected?

When will those misguided halfwits LBH and Happy realize there's more to life than the wad of cash in their wallets?

I think I better take the day off. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. O'Reilly out.

Bone Thugs: Bush Puts America on Death Row

Chris Floyd

Hardened cynics often accuse President George W. Bush of ruthlessly exploiting the tragedy of 9/11 to advance his pre-set agenda of killing a whole heap of foreigners. This is, of course, a calumnious slander against the Dear Leader's noble ambitions. For as he clearly demonstrated last week, Bush is also exploiting the tragedy of 9/11 to advance his pre-set agenda to kill a whole heap of Americans as well.

In yet another of those momentous degradations of public morality that go unremarked by the ever-vigilant watchdogs of the national media, Bush slipped a measure into the revamped "Patriot (sic) Act" he signed last week that will allow him to expedite the death penalty process across the land, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

Prisoners just aren't being killed fast enough for ole George, you see. They hang on for years and years, using all them lawyer tricks and court procedures and what all, that DNA hocus-pocus and habeas corpus junk, or even new testimony showing that they're innocent, as if that mattered. No, you got to strap 'em down and shoot 'em up with that poison juice lickety-split, churn those convict corpses out like so much prime pork sausage, the way ole George did it when he was head honcho down in Texas.

"Now they are surprised--and shrill--to learn that George W. Bush was lying to them too."

The Changing Face of Terror

Mike Whitney
ICH

Ever since the attacks on 9-11 we have heard one slogan reiterated more frequently than any other, everything changed on September 11.

The phrase has become the motto for transforming America according to the policy objectives of the men in power. In fact, the criminal conduct of government officials and their wars of aggression have all been causally brushed aside by invoking their keynote defense, everything changed.

September 11 has been the most abused and manipulated public relations scam in history. It is trotted out in every presidential speech, every executive press conference, and every appearance by an administration official. It is routinely used to undermine the rule of law and to vindicate the despotic powers of the president.

Everything changed. The gloves came off. We must accept the new realities of the post 9-11 world.

(IS it just me or do they sound mighty happy about it?)

September 11 has become the defining moment in human history; the seminal event that provides the meager justification for butchery and repression.

The United States is now gripped by a form of low-grade state terror; the twin-axels of fear and deception keep the imperial bandwagon gliding along its path. America has been subsumed in a swamp of paranoia and lies; clearing the way for future hostilities and greater brutality.

Everything changed.

We know now that every breach of the law, every assault on tradition, every illegal war was perfectly timed to coincide with the galvanizing moment, a Pearl Harbor-type event that would rally the public behind their war president and begin the long, descent into iniquity.

The Patriot Act was prepared and ready for approval well before 9-11, just as the NSA program of blanket-spying on the American people began shortly after. Rumsfeld was already looking for excuses to attack Iraq just hours after the Towers fell, and in a matter of months, White House attorneys would be building a legal defense for the cruel and inhuman treatment of prisoners.

Was this merely coincidence or was the Bush administration already prepared for the transition to dictatorship?

"The new National Security Strategy published yesterday by the White House strengthens the role of nuclear weapons in preemptive military strikes against terrorists and hostile states armed with chemical, biological or nuclear weapons. In stronger language than used in the previous strategy from 2002, the new strategy speaks more directly about the importance of nuclear weapons and lumps them together with other military action in a preemption scenario."

14 MARCH 2006
PRESS CONFERENCE STATEMENT
James H. Fetzer

We are here because we believe that a profound injustice is being perpetrated in the Courthouse behind us and that the American people deserve to know. We are here because we have made discoveries that suggest the wrong parties have been accused of monstrous crimes and that the American government knows better.

Three of us will speak and present our findings. The second speaker will be Colonel George Nelson, USAF (retired), who will address the crash sites from the perspective of an expert on crash investigations. Our third speaker will be Philip J. Berg, Esquire, a former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania.

I am James H. Fetzer, the founder of Scholars for 9/11 Truth, an association of academicians and experts dedicated to exposing falsehoods and revealing truths about the events of 9/11. We have been dismayed at the incapacity of the mainstream media to come to grips with even the most elementary aspects of 9/11.

Scholars for 9/11 Truth is a non-partisan organization, which has been created in order to take rumor, speculation and especially politics out of research on these events and to place their study on an objective and scientific foundation. Among the more prominent members of the roughly 200 members of the society are:

Robert M. Bowman: Former Director of the U.S. "Star Wars" Space Defense Program in both Republican and Democratic administrations, who is a former Air Force Lt. Colonel with 101 combat missions;
Morgan Reynolds: a Texas A & M Professor Emeritus of Economics, former Chief Economist for the Department of Labor for President George W. Bush and former Director of the Criminal Justice Center at the National Center for Policy Analysis;

John McMurtry: Professor of Philosophy, University Professor Emeritus Elect, University of Guelph, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and the author of six books dealing with public policy issues;

Wayne Madsen: Investigative journalist and syndicated columnist, a former communications security analyst with the NSA, a former intelligence officer in the Marine Corps and a Senior Fellow of the Electronic Privacy Information Center; and,

Andreas von Buelow: Former assistant German defense minister, director of the German Secret Service, minister for research and technology, and member of the German Parliament for 25 years.

Our members include physicists and mechanical engineers, pilots and aeronautical engineers, and others from an enormous range of backgrounds. We have made very significant discoveries that we are reporting to the country today. Unless I state differently, everyone I mention today is a member of this organization.
------------
UH OH, I'm starting to feel a bit of hope again. This is the complete press release from in front of the courthouse, which the HS goons tried to break up, and the Massoui,(sp?)trial is being held.

The Republicans live in such a dream world that they think that all the foolish statements they make will not come back to haunt them. They believe this because they believe America has a problem with long term memory and logic. It isn't working anymore and they can't figure out why. They have one strategy. They are on one track. They have gotten to the levels they are at by doing one thing and doing it well. Campaigning for themselves. The problem is it's not for the good of the people so the logic will always be faulty. Trying to make dishonest behavior honest and sociopathic behavior look normal work only when people are feeling doing, doing good, and they like the charm. When it wears off and it ain't working...look out.

In this climate of voters who are now hurting and paying more attention to the world around them the Republican strategies are useless. They depend on the voters to accept a statement that has no backup. They depend on the voters to vote on one issue that is really of no substance and no merit. They depend on the voter to accept irrational logic if the Republicans promise security.

Now the public knows that the Republicans have not delivered security and that they rev up the fear rhetoric whenever they need support. The public realizes that the Republicans are all talk.

People are getting pissed.

It is absurd to think that Saddam would destroy or hide his WMDs when he was about to be invaded, his country destroyed, and he himself probably killed or captured. That would be precisely the reason for having WMDs -- to use them in defense of his country and his own life.

Mr. Corn, if he had WMDs, he would have used them -- or he was even less of a threat than any leader in human history.

Exactly.
I remember seeing Saddam before the invasion. He looked like a man facing the devil. He was cooperating because he had nothing to hide and he didn't want his country destroyed. If he had had the weapons he would have used them to protect his country. We attacked Iraq. We invaded. He is a monster but he is also an Iraqi.

Three years later, the good, the bad and the ugly
Comparing life in Iraq under Saddam with that experienced today

...When I first arrived in Baghdad before the war, Iraq seemed lifeless. Baghdad felt like a city without oxygen, where those with big dreams couldnմ breathe or imagine a better life. Now, the country is very changed - in some ways for the better (as you'll see in the chart below) - but it has become equally menacing, terrifying and sinister.

I have been outside of Iraq for the past six weeks, covering the Winter Olympics in Torino and then taking some time off to decompress after three long years in the city of the Caliphs. I am heading back to Baghdad, just in time to cover the third anniversary of the invasion.

Being away has helped me understand how chaotic, confusing and impersonal it all seems from afar. Even the daily headlines seem to sigh with exhaustion: "Another 25 killed in car bombs," or "Another four soldiers killed by roadside bombs."

My Iraqis friends are exhausted, too. But all indications are this phase of sectarian violence or low-level civil war (or whatever we want to call it) will continue for at least several years, crushing more lives in its indifferent wake.

CNN's Lou Dobbs had noted neoconservative and war-supporter-turned-opponent Francis Fukuyama on last night. Dobbs asked about preemption.

"FUKUYAMA: Well, I think that policy began after September 11th, this idea that if you have undeterrable terrorists with weapons of mass destruction, you can't stop them, so you have to go out and get them. But it was applied to Iraq, which was not that problem.

"It was a rogue state that could have been handled, I think, in very different ways. And the problem with this preemptive doctrine, is first of all, it requires that you actually predict the future and given the intelligence that we had on Iraqi WMD, it doesn't give you a lot of confidence that we'll be able to do it well in the future. . . .

"So, I think that's why the great German statesman Bismarck said that preventive war is committing a suicide for fear of being killed. I mean, that's what it amounts to."

Hearst columnist Helen Thomas went on a tear at yesterday's press briefing.

"Q Does the President know that he's in violation of international law when he advocates preemptive war? The U.N. Charter, Geneva, Nuremberg. We violate international law when we advocate attacking a country that did not attack us.

"MR. McCLELLAN: Helen, I would just disagree with your assessment. First of all, preemption is a longstanding principle of American foreign --

"Q It's not a long-standing principle with us. It's your principle.

"MR. McCLELLAN: Have you asked your question?

"Q It's a violation of international law.

"MR. McCLELLAN: First of all, let me back up, preemption is a longstanding principle of American foreign policy. It is also part --

"Q It's never been.

"MR. McCLELLAN: It is also part of an inherent right to self-defense. But what we seek to do is to address issues diplomatically by working with our friends and allies, and working with regional partners. That's what we're doing when it comes to the threat posed by Iran pursuing nuclear weapons. That's what we're doing when it comes to resolving the nuclear issue with North Korea. So we seek diplomatic solutions to confront threats.

"And it's important what September 11th taught us --

"Q The heavy emphasis of your paper today is war and preemptive war.

"MR. McCLELLAN: Can I finish responding to your question, because I think it's important to answer your question. It's a good question and it's a fair question. But first of all, are we supposed to wait until a threat fully materializes and then respond? September 11th -- ...

"Q You had no threat from Iraq.

"MR. McCLELLAN: September 11th taught us --

"Q That was not a threat from Iraq."

McClellan also denied that the heavily-publicized offensive launched in Iraq yesterday was tied to the new campaign to change war opinion. Bush "knows about the operation, he's been briefed on it, but this is a decision that is made by commanders," he said.

"In March 2003, Americans by 3-to-1 said the U.S. action in Iraq was morally justified; now 50% say it's not. A month after the invasion, 85% said the war was going well; now 60% say it's going badly.

"A record 60% say the war hasn't been 'worth it.' "

Marc Sandalow writes in the San Francisco Chronicle: "After almost 1,100 days of war, 2,311 U.S. deaths, more than a quarter of a trillion dollars spent and no end of turmoil in sight, most Americans say the war was a mistake. . . .

"Yet Bush expresses no more doubt today than he did in March 2003, insisting that taking out Hussein has made America safer, no matter the sacrifice to the country or the damage to his presidency. . . .

" 'I don't blame the administration . . . for making mistakes. I blame them for when mistakes are made and identified, not changing course,'' said Rep. Ellen Tauscher, [D-Calif.] who voted in October 2002 to give Bush the authority to wage war, and now says she regrets her vote.

" 'What worries me more than anything is the fatal disconnect this president exhibits every day. That arrogance and hubris has cost us lives of good people, and I don't see it stopping,' Tauscher said."

Brzezinski on Iraq: "American Leadership, In All Of Its Dimensions, Has Been Damaged"

Yesterday, former National Security Advisor Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski gave a speech on the Iraq war at the Center for American Progress. Some choice excerpts -
On the politics of fear:

But it is a part of this atmosphere of Manichean polarization which is being bred by a phony definition of reality. Neither President Truman nor Eisenhower РDemocrat and Republican Рever spoke of America being a "Nation at war" during the Korean War. Neither President Johnson nor Nixon ever spoke of America being a "Nation at war" during the Vietnam War. Yes we have a serious challenge from the potential threat of terrorism and we have to wage an unrelenting struggle against it. But to describe America repeatedly as a nation at war - implicitly of course with a commander and chief in charge - is to contribute to a view of the world by America that stimulates fear and isolates us from others. Other nations have suffered more from terrorism than America. None of them has embraced that definition of reality.

On the Bush administrationճ Iran policy:

We are not negotiating with the Iranians...We will not touch the Iranians. Why not? Are we perhaps trying to prevent a compromise? Do we really want Iran to desist, or do we want to drive it into extremism? It surely cannot be our deliberate intention to fuse Iranian nationalism with Iranian fundamentalism. But that is precisely what we are doing.

On the costs of the Iraq war:

The war has proven to be prohibitively costly. American leadership, in all of its dimensions, has been damaged. American morality has been stained - in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. American legitimacy has been undermined - by unilateral decisions. American credibility - particularly the case for the war, has been shattered. Leadership depends on morality, legitimacy, credibility. The economic costs of the war are escalating into hundreds of billions of dollars. More importantly, American casualties are in the thousands, with more than tens of thousands maimed. We are not even counting Iraqi casualties; we prefer not to know what they are.

USA Today editorial

"The Iraq invasion, far from being a success, provides a cautionary tale about just why strike-first needs to remain, as in the past, the final option. In Iraq, it vaulted to the top of the agenda. Key administration figures -- notably Vice President Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld -- had been itching for a war with Iraq long before 9/11. After the terror attacks, they asserted links between Saddam and al-Qaeda where there was none. . . .

"In Iraq, the Bush Doctrine has been much like that Wild West dictum: Shoot first, ask questions later. Now it's time to return pre-emption to its proper place in U.S. foreign policy: for use only when the threat is imminent, the intelligence is bulletproof, and the use of military action is the last resort, preferably with allies on board. Then make sure you have a plan for what to do next."

So much for silence!

Posted by: DEN at March 17, 2006 02:38 PM

44

Carrie 27, there are many more voices out there, it's just a matter of getting people to listen. I try not to get my hopes up, I don't know what will happen if this finally makes it to the MSM, but it can't be worse then what is happening now.

Posted by: Saladin at March 17, 2006 02:44 PM

45

Lunch break.

Still thinking about the discussion yesterday about the death of MSM. It is a documented problem, see the study. IF anything, Ms. Saladin has underestimated the trouble that we are in (by not having an informed electorate).

As cable has invaded our homes, it has made Americans dumber by distracting them from the real issues at hand. Numbers from the study (linked above) show that NPR listeners are the most informed, internet NewsHounds (like us) are also highly informed, and FauxNews watchers are scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for a clue (LBH). The one thing that wasn't covered was the number of people who get their news from the pushpolls.

Pollster: Did you know that President Bush is trying to protect Americans from Osama Bin Laden by breaking the law and wiretapping Americans?
LBillHappy: Huh?
Pollster: Are you for or against the use of wiretaps on Americans.
LBillHappy: Huh?
Pollster: Do you think the government should listen to the conversations of Americans and the Terrorists that are plotting to kill your children?
LBillHappy: Huh? I don't have any kids. Oh, wait a minute. Lemme check something. Yes, I do have kids. What was that last question?
Pollster: Nevermind.

Fakenews has stepped in to provide the lies that lead the Reds astray. If you look at the Pew Poll, a big chunk of Dems and Indies watch FakeNews, too. This is the Rove effect. Before he was neutralized by Fitzgerald, Rove could go to his boys and spread the lies that started the war and protected King George the Clueless.

It's no wonder that we get LBillHappy spreading nonsense about
*Reid being investigated and losing his leadership position,
*these documents from Iraq proving that Saddam had WMD and sent them to Syria,
* Iraq had WMD,
* Syria, Egypt, Germany and Russia said that Iraq had WMD
* Iraq and Al Qaeda were allies,
* David Corn outed Valerie Plame,
* HRC is a Lesbian
* Wes Clark is a Lesbian
* Valerie Plame was not an undercover CIA Agent,
* and every other idiotic tinfoil-hat story that they fall for.

They get their FakeNews from the same source and come around here crowing about Democracy being on the March and being "right" about something. LBillHappy, name one thing that you've been right about. Please, I'd like to give you credit for being just a little unstupid. Work with me.

O.K. Carrie, you win. ;) OK. No more Mr. Sidewise smiley face.

Back to work. Don't mind me.

Pentagon 'hedge' strategy targets China
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
March 17, 2006

The Pentagon is moving strategic bombers to Guam and aircraft carriers and submarines to the Pacific as part of a new "hedge" strategy aimed at preparing for conflict with China, Pentagon officials said yesterday.
Peter Rodman, assistant defense secretary for international security affairs, told a congressional commission that the response to the emerging military threat from China is part of the White House national security strategy made public yesterday.
Although U.S. relations with China are good, "both sides understand very well that there is a potential for a conflict, particularly in the Taiwan Strait," Mr. Rodman said during a hearing of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

WTF??? They have positively gone stark raving mad!

Posted by: Saladin at March 17, 2006 02:51 PM

47

Thank you Pan for the back-up. I was understating it on purpose. I was getting the distinct impression some here view the MSM fondly and I was stepping on some toes. I stand by all the statements I made. And the ones I didn't!

Posted by: Saladin at March 17, 2006 02:54 PM

48

46 I think so too, Sal. If I may, don't borrow on your misery, that is to say, don't be preoccupied with the pain that might come from dashed hopes.

Yours is a valid and noble cause. Whether it comes to be or not is still undetermined. Your complete distain with the MSM signals a concern that your cause may not come to pass. I think it will. Furthermore, there's more power in a frame of mind that anticipates success rather than anticipates failure.

Man severs own penis, throws it at officers
Source: Chicago Sun-Times
URL Source: http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-ouch17.html
Published: Mar 17, 2006

Before cops threw the book at him, Jakub Fik threw something unusual at them -- his penis.

Fik, 33, cut off his own penis during a Northwest Side rampage Wednesday morning. When confronted by police, Fik hurled several knives and his severed organ at the officers, police said. Officers stunned him with a Taser and took him into custody.

"We took him out without any serious injury, with the exception of his own," said Chicago Police Sgt. Edward Dolan of the 16th District.

Doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital reattached Fik's penis Wednesday, sources said. He was listed in good condition Thursday, according to hospital spokesman Andrew Buchanan, who declined to comment further.

Posted by: Saladin at March 17, 2006 03:03 PM

50

Carrie, I'm not preoccupied, the only thing that worries me is that the MSM will finally start screaming it from the rooftops because the powers that be have decided that it is useful, but as I said, the truth is always better than living a lie, regardless of the pain it may cause. I imagine the entire country of people learning this news for the first time and experiencing what I did. It won't be pretty.

Posted by: Saladin at March 17, 2006 03:09 PM

"Before he was neutralized by Fitzgerald, Rove could go to his boys and spread the lies that started the war"

Pand, I'm a fan of Fitz and I think Rove is the most dispicable agent for irresponsible governement and bad policy since 1899.

Can you please provide some explanation of how Fitzgerald neutrilized Rove.

USA Today is reporting:

Conservative baby boom vs Liberal baby bust

Conservatives that are mostly pro-life are experiencing a baby boom where as liberals who are mostly pro-choice, in essience, may be killing their very future through abortion.

How ironic! That's funny!!

Hey LBH, thought you gave up on us lefties? The loneliness getting to ya? You really like it here dont ya? cmon admit it. Just dont expect a warm wellcome.

Posted by: DEN at March 17, 2006 03:57 PM

65

Bush's downfall? What downfall? He's in his last term. He doesn't give two hoots about his approval ratings as long as the billionaire Arabs continue to fund him, the religious wingnuts will defend him, and the MSM still reports his lies as truth. The three people he listens to still have their noses up his butt as much as ever. The only way there's going to be "new blood" in the White House is if someone gives Cheney a firearm.

It's the Congressional Repugs who are facing a downfall. And they're blaming Bush for their own failure to admit to his incompetence and venality. After shamelessly hitching themselves to his wagonload of filth for six years, they're only now noticing the stench, and only because they're afraid for their jobs.

I can barely imagine a president worse than Bush. But R-Congress is even more pathetic.

Posted by: eggman at March 17, 2006 03:58 PM

[Conservatives that are mostly pro-life are experiencing a baby boom where as liberals who are mostly pro-choice, in essience, may be killing their very future through abortion.

How ironic! That's funny!!]

Funny in that it's utter B.S. Let's get this straight -- for all their moralizing, right-wing gals have abortions just as often as lefties do. They just don't tell daddy about it.

If anything, it's the availability of, and willingness to use, CONTRACEPTIVES that keeps the liberal population lower than the cons.

I didn't read the USA Today article but it sounds like more Freakonomics-type junk research. There are too many hugely complex demographics and overlapping issues involved to reach any sensible conclusions on something like this.

Posted by: eggman at March 17, 2006 04:12 PM

I'm giving myself the afternoon off. LBH is looking for funny. Need a little cheering up after getting pegged? How 'bout a little humor lubricant to get you through the day, LBHappy?

Just wanted to share the giggles I got from a coworker.

Late Nite Humor

"President Bush says America has caused an incredible transformation in Afghanistan. He said everything's being rebuilt, people are getting jobs, kids are going back to school. He said it works so well that he's thinking of trying it in New Orleans."
--Jay Leno

"The video tape that everybody is talking about this week is the one of President Bush ... being warned by federal disaster officials repeatedly the day before Katrina struck. They're constantly saying to him it's going to happen and he doesn't ask a single question. I think it's a shame the president's performance was too late for this year's Oscars because, usually when you play a retarded guy, you're going to win."
--Bill Maher

"President Bush now says he didn't know about the Dubai port deal until after it was approved. Apparently this is part of the White House's 'Don't ask him, don't tell him' policy."
--Jay Leno

Bushisms

"I like my buddies from west Texas. I liked them when I was young, I liked them then I was middle-age, I liked them before I was president, and I like them during president, and I like them after president." --George W. Bush, Feb. 1,

"People don't need to worry about security. This deal wouldn't go forward if we were concerned about the security for the United States of America."
--George W. Bush, Feb. 23, 2006

Reds are outproducing Liberals at a startling pace? No wonder welfare participation has gone up 17% in the last few years. It's the GOoPer babyboom.

LBHappy, You just might win an Oscar, dude. LOL.

Here are two interesting headlines:

Federal Debt up $26 TRILLION Since Dubya Took Office !!!
The federal government's fiscal exposures now total more than $46 trillion, up from about $20 trillion in 2000.

And:

Police Memos Say Arrest Tactics Calmed Protest - New York Times

In five internal reports made public yesterday as part of a lawsuit, New York City police commanders candidly discuss how they had successfully used "proactive arrests," covert surveillance and psychological tactics at political demonstrations in 2002, and recommend that those approaches be employed at future gatherings.
Among the most effective strategies, one police captain wrote, was the seizure of demonstrators on Fifth Avenue who were described as "obviously potential rioters."
-------------
I have been seeing these subjects together more and more lately. Are they trying to tell us something? Could we be considered "obviously potential rioters?"

DEN, I had no idea it would put you in such a dither! I thought it was funny, in a sick sort of way.

I'm not in a dither, I agree it was funny. My last post was meant to be humorous also, just picked up unintended side effects. Thats what I get for being a smart ass.

How To Steal an Election

It's easier to rig an electronic voting machine than a Las Vegas slot machine, says University of Pennsylvania visiting professor Steve Freeman. That's because Vegas slots are better monitored and regulated than America's voting machines, Freeman writes in a book out in July that argues, among other things, that President Bush may owe his 2004 win to an unfair vote count. We'll wait to read his book before making a judgment about that. But Freeman has assembled comparisons that suggest Americans protect their vices more than they guard their rights, according to data he presented at an October meeting of the American Statistical Association in Philadelphia.

The comparisons are on a chart in the article.

I generally have a sarcastic sense of humor which is hard to project sometimes, I'll have to work on that. Self mutilation is weird alright, like LBH and self humiliation. Heh, Heh!
