March 10, 2006More Bloggingheads: Dems in Disarray, Hitchens on Iran, and Yglesias Takes on the BossBloggingheads.tv has a new show up this morning. And, yes, it features the proprietor of Davidcorn.com--and liberal blogger Matt Yglesias. Millions, no doubt, will be glued to their ergonomically-correct chairs as they watch us take on a host of controversial matters. Are the Democrats in disarray? Or is this a media cliche? Did a former CIA official suggest that Bush did lie about the WMD threat in Iraq? Is Slate writer Will Saletan right on abortion when he encourages abortion rights advocates to give up on the second trimester? Is Christopher Hitchens right on Iran when he calls on the Bush administration to revive diplomatic relations with Tehran (instead of going bonkers over Iran's possible nuclear weapons program)? And--most important of all--is it not really a great idea for Springsteen to do an album of songs associated with radical folkie Pete Seeger? So if you want to see the blabbing heads behind the blogs, check out BHTV here. Posted by David Corn at March 10, 2006 09:43 AM |

Saladin, I read the police state USA article. God,that's sobering. I read bits and pieces here and there about the various domestic spying programs, and never put them all together like this. That is just too scary for words.

David, thanks for the space to vent. Better go wake Happy up, it appears he is still sleeping. How much you pay that guy? Never mind, none of my business. You sure could do better than that guy. Not saying we dont appreciate the contrasting viewpoint but he is obviously too self important to have an ounce of concern for anybody else. Just sayin.

Can you say "Back to the subject matter. It's time to stop promoting myself?"
Posted by: Carol Curtis at March 10, 2006 10:16 AM
Carey, how are you? I agree, that article was an eye-opener. I have read about all of those subjects over the months, but to see them all in a nutshell like that, my God, and that was only part one. That is why I have all but lost hope in the politicians, they sit on their ass while we turn into a giant prison camp, all that's missing is the bars. I won't accept excuses, there is no excuse for this shit to be happening. "We didn't know" will never cut it with me. The very few in DC who are trying to stop this juggernaut will be crushed if the people don't stand up, we are in very bad trouble, I'm afraid we can't vote our way out of it.

Big corporations doing work in foreign lands are getting nervous about a 200 year old law making them accountable for their atrocities. Not surprising the corporations and the administration are nervous, aw gee, too bad. More here

DEN, happy doesn't have a contrasting viewpoint, he is just a self righteous, selfish person who can't get over himself. I don't read his posts, if I want the Pollyanna version of the economy I'll read the WSJ!

The ACLU released a report this week regarding the increasing threat to our privacy by the government and their insistance on minding OUR business. Time to boil the tar and pluck some chickens, anybody know where we could find a rail? Reading and PDF file here

When agry voters confront Nancy Pelosi about doing something about Bush, her reponse is always something like: "You should channel your energy towards the 2006 elections". I dont think she understands that we dont really have "elections" anymore.
VOTER SUPPRESSION
When republicans win more seats in 2006, will anyone do anything. Will the media address our electoral problems? Like they did in 2000 and 2004? Will the democrats stand up and fight for the little guy? I really doubt it. Nancy Pelosi might say "You should channel your energy towards the 2008 elections".
What are you going to do?

Statement of Robert A. Levy, Ph.D., J.D. Senior Fellow in Constitutional Studies Cato Institute Washington, D.C. submitted to Committee on the Judiciary United States Senate Wartime Executive Power and the NSA's Surveillance Authority II................................................To be sure, the FISA statute was drafted to deal with peacetime intelligence. But that does not mean the statute can be ignored when applied to the post-9/11 war on terror. First, the FISA text makes no distinction between wartime and peacetime. To conduct surveillance without statutory authorization, in wartime or peacetime, is a crime, punishable by up to five years in prison.22 Second, in passing FISA, Congress expressly contemplated warrantless surveillance during wartime, but limited it to the first 15 days after war is declared. The statute reads: "Notwithstanding any other law, the President, through the Attorney General, may authorize electronic surveillance without a court order under this title to acquire foreign intelligence information for a period not to exceed fifteen calendar days following a declaration of war by the Congress."23 Third, FISA warrant requirements and electronic surveillance provisions were amended by the USA PATRIOT Act,24 which was passed in response to 9/11 and signed by President Bush. If 9/11 triggered "wartime," as the administration has repeatedly and convincingly argued, then the amended FISA is clearly a wartime statute..........................Very clear anaylsis of the illegality of King Georges snooping. Now the question remains, this administration is STILL THERE? complete text of testimony here

Just what the world, in a poverty epidemic, really needs:
MORE BILLIONARES THAN EVER
So when the soak up as much wealth as they can from the poor and middle class, will they stop there? Greed is insatiable, and when the poor are drained dry, the disgustingly rich will move on to bleed the "Happy" little capitalists who were foolish enough to stick thier inheritance into the stock market. The only thing that will satisfy someone with money and power? MORE MONEY AND MORE POWER!
Posted by: corky at March 10, 2006 11:06 AM
Corky, I know how you feel, tired of watching the rich wallowing in money while we have to scratch every dime up to pay bills. The consolation is the more money you have, the more people try to take it away from you. Also the more money you have the farther you fall finacially if the economy or financial markets take a dump. I like having enough money to pay my bills with a bit left over to have fun once in a while.

If and when anybody shows up here, if humour is needed because of the inquisition, go here for a bit of political wit.

Posted by: DEN at March 10, 2006 12:29 PM
Den,
Yes that was very funny. Thank You. But not as funny as this:
Bush says we are harming the war on terror by not supporting his business deal with Dubai
Yeah, invading Iraq didnt hurt any Arabs feelings?
Posted by: corky at March 10, 2006 12:31 PM
Corky, Yea the president of vice upstaged by the prez in stupidity. Guess king george is gonna have to figure out another way of paying them Arabs back for all the generous library donations now, perhaps he could offer his lovely daughters for a nite of rock-em, sock-em fun.

Hilary Clinton and Walmart
Not really anything bad, but todays democratic party is not that much different when it comes to putting wealth before work. At least the republicans are transparent about who they represent. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are rich people who only pretend to care about the poor.

More humour from the desk of Doug Thompson.......I prefer a President who only screws interns....... Heh, Heh, Heh.
