Rove Defense Evolves/Times Wimps Out on Bush and "Scatology"/CNN Revives Robertson

The Rove defense evolves. Yesterday his attorney told CNN that "Karl has truthfully told everyone who's asked him that he did not circulate Valerie Plame's name to punish her husband, Joe Wilson." When CNN asked if that included George W. Bush, Luskin added, "Everyone is everyone." Note all the escape hatches built into this one sentence. Circulate: well, I guess that depends on what the meaning of "circulate" is? Rove certainly told Bob Novak and Matt Cooper that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA. How many people does one have to tell something before this becomes circulating? Name: Luskin claims Rove never mentioned her by name, but Joseph Wilson only had one wife at the time. The fact that Rove may not have used Valerie Wilson's name doesn't mean much. (The Intelligence Identities Protection Act does not require that an offender name an undercover intelligence officer, only that a violator discloses information regarding an undercover officer's identity.) Punish: suppose it had been Rove's intent only to undermine Wilson's account of his CIA-backed trip to Niger (after which Wilson concluded the allegations of Iraqi uranimum-shopping there were weak). That might not be the same as punishment. Perhaps Rove was merely trying to counter Wilson's criticism, not extract retribution. But the question of whether Rove was trying to punish Wilson is not relevant to the Intelligence Identities Protection Act or any other law under which special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald might indict Rove. It doesn't matter.

But Luskin is working hard for his money. This one sentence has at least three wiggle elements within it. I'd like to see how Rove is questioned by the grand jury on these points.

TIMES WIMPS OUT? The New York Times does make me laugh sometimes--and that's without a funnies page. Today, it A-12ed a piece on the release of 2,000 pages of official correspondence and personal notes that passed between George W. Bush and Harriet Miers when he was governor of Texas. The Times headlined the article, "Documents Show Nominee Had Personal Ties With Bush." There's not much news in that headline. A more accurate billboard would have been, "Documents Show Nominee Had Nose Up Bush's Rear," or, keeping in the family-friendly language of the paper, "Documents Show Nominee Fawned Over Bush." The documents apparently contain no bombshells, just brown-nosing notes: "You are the best governor ever," "Hopefully, Jenna and Barbara recognize that their parents are 'cool'--as do the rest of us," and the like. But here's another interesting point about the Times coverage. The Dallas Morning News's story (by veteran Bush-watch Wayne Slater) on these documents quoted a 1997 note Bush sent Miers: "I appreciate your friendship and candor--never hold back your sage advice. PS. No more public scatology." The Times quotes the same document without the postscript. Was the "scatology" reference--which suggests that even Bush thought Miers might be laying it on too thick in public--too much for the Times?

EQUAL TIME FOR WINGNUTS? Thanks to Ronald Reagan, there is no longer a Fairness Doctrine that compels broadcasters to give equal time to various political views. So what can be the explanation for CNN inviting Pat Robertson on to talk about, well, anything? They have no obligation to provide nuts access to their audience. (And Robertson does have his own show on his own network.) But once again Wolf Blitzer had Robertson on his Sunday show this past weekend.

Robertson is a bigoted madman. He has made assorted derogatory remarks about Methodists, Muslims and Hindus. He recently called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez, denied he had done so, then conceded he had misspoken. He blamed feminists and ACLUers for upsetting God so much that He (not Her) permitted 9/11 to occur. He's been implicated in various financial scandals. So why listen to anything he has to say--especially without first informing the viewers of all of the above (and more)?

Yet Blitzer gave Robertson no such intro. He quickly asked Robertson to explain why the world has seen the Indonesian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and the Pakistani earthquake happen within the past year. (Blitzer left out the mud slides of Guatemala.) Robertson eagerly swung at this slow pitch and said that all of this might mean we're at "the end of time," the calamitous era right before Jesus Christ returns. To that, Blitzer said, "All right. Let's move on to something that we perhaps can understand a little bit better, which would be Harriet Miers." And Robertson went on to praise Miers. Then Blitzer gave Robertson the chance to "clarify briefly" his previous call for bumping off Chavez. Robertson teed off again: "This man is setting up a Marxist-type dictatorship in Venezuela. He's trying to spread Marxism throughout South America. He is negotiating with the Iranians to get nuclear material. And he also sent $1.2 million in cash to Osama bin Laden right after 9/11. "

Chavez gave money to bin Laden? If Bush had proof of that, US troops would be in Caracas by now. "Where did you get that from?" Blitzer asked Robertson. Robertson replied, "Well sources that came to me. That's what I was told." Could Robertson be more vague? Blitzer did not press him further. It was time to sign off. He thanked Robertson for having joined him and moved on to the next segment.

But why would CNN let a hate-monger with a record of saying wrong and stupid things come on to pop off about anything and to make unfounded charges based on "sources that came" to him? Just because Robertson has people who watch him on his own TV show? Does that entitle him to appear on CNN and say whatever he wants? CNN let down the people who come to it for serious-minded news.

The fact that Ms. Miers thinks that W. is the "smartest man she has ever met" should exempt her from all consideration. I am sure that is why that the right wing contingency is all over her. Even they know the emporer has no clothes.

CNN= Contains No News. Since when can you count on them for serious anything. I read an article on TV Newslies that said, after watching an entire day of CNN and timing actual, real news broadcast, there was approximately 5 minutes of news segment each hour. CNN was a joke before robertson showed up to make an even bigger fool of himself than he does on his own show. This appearence just puts CNN in a more honest light.

Why would anybody ever watch Wolf Blitzer? Having on a certified nut like Robertson and letting him run his mouth is just adds to an excess of reasons not to watch.

Luskin sounds like a man actively preparing for plea and sentence bargaining. I guess Karl technically violated a law or two in a moment of light distraction, but give him a break. He meant no harm. His mind is full time occupied as one of the four horsemen of the American apocalypse.

I don't get the comment about laying it on too thickly in public regarding the Miers-Bush love notes. It sounded like Bush might have been telling the church lady in the post script that he would try to stop flipping people off and cursing in public.

Cheers, folks.

Speaking of CNN and Media complicity....

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Information that led to heightened security for the New York City transit system was a hoax, government sources said Tuesday.

The sources said an informant in Iraq who provided the tip had told investigators about a terrorist plot involving New York's subway system. That informant admitted he gave false information, the sources said.

Pat Robertson is a moronic gasbag. He memorized the bible to use it to his advantage. His stupid pronouncements are getting tiresome. He's just trying to get in the news. It always amazed me that this country allowed a tent show to gain so much power.

Riff, I agree with you. When I read that PS I thought that Miers had given Bush the advice to keep the 'scatology' to a minimum in public and he was telling her he took the advice.

As for Rove being one of the horsemen? I agree, his distraction was probably keeping the head honcho on the horse. That's a full time job in and of itself.

I think i get it now:

Rove may have whispered something to Miers during some discussion about what he may or may not have said and absolutely did not utter the name of a certain president of a northern country in South America as the source of the transfer of funds "ostensibly" for oil exploration in Afghanistan--that president may or may not have a ravine named after him where the LA Dodgers play baseball. Then Miers, praying with her mentor Pat, not realizing that only Catholic confessions are privileged information, asked the Rev Robertson for forgiveness for being in the same corporate law firm as lawyers for various petroleum interests who may or may not have authorized contracts for the transfer of oil exploration funds between Venezuela and the bin Laden family in Afghanistan??

Here's a really good article by John Nichols.
John Nichols: President created terror mess he describes

"Apparently working under the assumption that no one has been paying attention over the past two and a half years, Bush delivered a speech to the National Endowment for Democracy Thursday in which he dismissed calls for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. "Some observers also claim that America would be better off by cutting our losses and leaving Iraq now," the president argued, before concluding, "It's a dangerous illusion refuted with a simple question: Would the United States and other free nations be more safe or less safe with Zarqawi and bin Laden in control of Iraq, its people and its resources?"

That's a scary scenario.

Unfortunately, it is one that the president created. And it is one that the president still fails to fully comprehend."

Nichols goes on to write

"The president's refusal to face reality has isolated him from those who are serious about fighting the spread of terrorism.

Gen. Peter Cosgrove, the former head of Australia's Defense Forces, rejects the notion that staying the course is the smart response. In fact, the well-regarded former commander of the military of a key U.S. ally says that withdrawal makes sense because it will "take one of the focal points of terrorist motivation away, and that is foreign troops."

It is Cosgrove who suggested the late 2006 withdrawal date that has been taken up by U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., the first member of the Senate to urge the development of an exit-strategy timeline.

The president who argued that Iraq needed to be invaded in order to fight terrorism has instead opened up a new country to al-Qaida's machinations.

The president who argued that the U.S. must continue to occupy Iraq in order to prevent the spread of terrorism has instead contributed to it, according to the head of his own CIA. Now, George Bush argues for staying the course.

Perhaps Osama bin Laden would agree with that strategy.

But the American people are wising up.

The latest Gallup/CNN/USA Today poll tells us that only 32 percent approve of Bush's handling of the war. A remarkable 59 percent now say that the invasion was a mistake. And an even more remarkable 63 percent say they want to see some or all U.S. troops withdrawn.

David:

Not to put too fine a point on this -- and you didn't exactly say they are the same -- but I the Fairness Doctrine and the Equal Time Rule are not the same kettle of fish.Ê The Equal Time Rule specifically applies to political candidates.Ê Remember all the chatter when The Terminator was running for California Governor and if broadcast TV stations aired one of Schwarzenegger's movies, then the stations might be required to give "equal time" to fringe candidates -- such as Gary Coleman?Ê Also, The Equal Time Rule is why talk show hosts have to quit their jobs if they run for political office.

Check out FCC regulations:ÊÊ Section 315. Candidates for public office

The Equal Time rule has been confused with the Fairness Doctrine, which required that broadcasters "operate in the public interest and afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views on issues of public interest."

So...The Fairness Doctrine was abolished and we have Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, blah blah blah blah blah blah

Final Exam

Students, since you are my graduate students, I have upgraded the final exam. An earlier exam was for my undergraduate students. You have worked really hard these past four and one half years. You have seen our country go from a democracy to a Nazi/fascist government. OUR ELECTIONS ARE ELECTRONICALLY RIGGED WITH NO PAPER TRAIL. SHALOM AND THE COMMON GOOD HAVE RECEIVED THEIR DEATH NOTICES. In the process of change you have encountered more stress, nightmares, sickness, loss in wages, diseases, more contaminated waters, no health care, higher cost in drugs, more autism due to the increase in mercury exposure, outsourcing of jobs, more corporate corruption, higher costs in education, more lies, more wrong and immoral wars, a new god known as the bushgod, more porn from companies that contribute great amounts of money into the coffers of repugnants, more hatred, killing, torture, more crimes against humanity, and murders.

Your final exam will be only one question. How do you characterize and evaluate Bush and his Nazi/fascist regime?
a. corrupt
b. rotten
c. vile
d. scumbags
e. slime balls
f. demented
g. depraved
h. deranged
i. low life sludges
j. grubs
k. putrid stenches
l. definitely weasel like
m. decaying, smelling turds
n. broccoli farts
o. greedy
p. liars
q. warmongers
r. miserable
s. pathetic
t. worthless
u. all of the above

Good luck with your exam and have a happy and safe vacation! With Bush's temper tantrums increasing and his mind frying from over use of drugs this unstable low life may be signaling new wars to solidify his legacy as a murderer and a war criminal president. Being a war president Americans will be even less safe. After Iran will be North Korea and several thousand off range nuclear missiles aimed at China. These attacks will put the American people in such disarray that there will no longer be any elections and the Nazi regime is in full control.

Cnn's Wolf Blitzer has clearly demonstrated his inability to provide fair and balanced coverage in the past. Prior to the invasion of Iraq he paved the way for the Bush administration, providing a national showcase for war hawks on his news program. There was one war hawk after the next repeating the war mantra of this administration. Wolf Blitzer did not provide the american public with accurate, fair and balanced coverage by providing the same opportunity for politcal analyst, experts and opponents to the invasion.

Speaking of experts, who did not support the invasion. Today (Oct 11) Diane Rehm had UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter on as a guest. I was able to get through and asked him three diffenrent questions.

1. "Did he think the american people would ever find out who produced the Niger documents? His answer was "he did not think so"

2. I asked if he thought Phase II of the Senate Selection Committe on Intelligence would ever be implemented. as promised by Rep. Senator Pat Roberts. His answer was lengthy and is worth going to the Diane Rehm show web site to listen to. In fact the whole program was worthwhile.

3. I asked whether he thought the U.S. would take military action against Iran or Syria? He thought there was a good chance. ( although his answer was much more detailed that that) I also shared with him that I had read many of his writings and others that reported that the same folks who brought us the fabricated intelligence (via the Office of Special Plans and the White HOuse Iraq group) have been laying the ground work for military action against both of these nations.
TAKE THE TIME TO GO LISTEN TO HIS ANSWERS AND TO THE PROGRAM. SCOTT RITTER IS ONE OF MY HEROES, NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER.

WE NEED TO DEMAND THAT PHASE II BE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AS PROMISED. THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FABRICATED INTELLIGENCE FOR IRAQ. NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE... THEY HAVE ALL READY MOVED ON LAYING THE GROUND WORK FOR THEIR MILITARY AGENDA..."SECURING THE REALM" IN THE MIDDLE EAST.
To borrow Michael Ledeen's phrase that he uses at the end of many of his articles at the NationaL Review. FASTER PLEASE...HOLD THESE FOLKS ACCOUNTABLE....FASTER PLEASE

Net power struggle nears climax

The US has got an image problem when it comes to the internet.

It is seen as arrogant and determined to remain the sheriff of the world wide web, regardless of whatever the rest of the world may think.
It has even lost the support of the European Union. It stands alone as the divisive battle over who runs the internet heads for a showdown at a key UN summit in Tunisia next month.

The stakes are high, with the European Commissioner responsible for the net, Viviane Reding, warning of a potential web meltdown.

"The US is absolutely isolated and that is dangerous," she said during a briefing with journalists in London.

"Imagine the Brazilians or the Chinese doing their own internet. That would be the end of the story.

"I am very much afraid of a fragmented internet if there is no agreement."

Bush/Cheney

I believe that Jeanne had an article that highlighted a strain between the two lowlifes. Bush must blame himself for any differences with Cheney. Bush chose Cheney because Bush has no brain and he is incompetent. He was led by the neocons and the fundies to do what they wanted. Bush like his father is so craved for power that they will do anything to possess power. In the final analysis Bush chose to go to war and he still desires to go to war. Cheney may want to stay away from Bush because he knows that Bush is a sick demented and deranged lowlife who is putting our nation at risk for a nuclear holocaust and our souls are marching into perdition. Bush is a child, an irresponsible child, who is spoiled and who never really had to work for anything. He was the worst choice to be president by the repugnants. YES, THE WORST CHOICE!!!

I also blame Americans for accepting Bush for their god. Americans have committed blasphemy and irreverence to God and Americans will pay deeply for turning their backs on the true God. Self-destruction of America is not out of the question. America must return to the true god before the end time and the rapture that is nearly upon us.

Fear and loathing in militia hell

By Pepe Escobar

The law of the jungle rules - coupled with the collapse of social life. Baghdad is inundated with messages telling people not to congregate anywhere, otherwise they become targets for suicide bombing. Any foreign visitor is a target for kidnapping. Every government official is a prisoner in his or her own office.

To compound the misery, what Sunnis see, apart from the disgraceful state of Baghdad, is the Pentagon relentlessly destroying Sunni Arab infrastructure elsewhere - like in Fallujah on November 2004 and Tal Afar last month. Buildings, bridges, sewage system, telephone network, it's all gone.

Jaafari's government controls little else than the Green Zone. Five Baghdad neighborhoods - Ghaziliya, Amiraya, Yarmouk, Doura and Shurta - are controlled by the resistance. People in Baghdad tend to refer to the "resistance" as a whole - not distinguishing between the myriad groups (except for al-Qaeda in Iraq).

The takeover of the majority of the city is a work in progress. This means in practice hooded characters loaded with Kalashnikovs, hand grenades and rocket launchers telling people to stay out of trouble - ie, holed up at home. In a variation of American black ghetto folklore - the "man" controls the day, we control the night - the resistance in these areas controls day and night. There's nothing Jaafari's government, holed up in the Green Zone, can do about it.

*****end of clip*****

Another good piece from Pepe.

WHITE HOUSE
Libby Did Not Tell Grand Jury About Key Conversation

By Murray Waas, special to National Journal
© National Journal Group Inc.
Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005

In two appearances before the federal grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's name, Lewis (Scooter) Libby, the chief of staff to Vice President Cheney, did not disclose a crucial conversation that he had with New York Times reporter Judith Miller in June 2003 about the operative, Valerie Plame, according to sources with firsthand knowledge of his sworn testimony.

The new revelations regarding Libby come as Fitzgerald has indicated that he is wrapping up his investigation and making final decisions as to whether criminal charges will be brought in the case.

Libby also did not disclose the June 23 conversation when he was twice interviewed by FBI agents working on the Plame leak investigation, the sources said.

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald apparently learned about the June 23 conversation for the first time just days ago, after attorneys for Miller and The New York Times informed prosecutors that Miller had discovered a set of notes on the conversation.

Lobby Watch

With Indictment of AIPAC Honchos, Trial of Spy-for-Israel Franklin May Be Postponed
By Andrew I. Killgore

Piecing together the disjointed press accounts of the investigation, it now appears that AIPAC was targeted as early as 2001. Indeed, the indictment against Rosen, AIPAC's former director of foreign policy issues, and Weissman, a senior AIPAC Middle East analyst (AIPAC cut the two men loose in April 2005), cites illegal activities beginning in April 1999. According to the JTA(Jewish Telegraphic Agency) the FBI investigation stemmed from President George W. Bush's determination to clamp down on leaks.

The indictments suggest the government has a trove of information on AIPAC.
The Franklin indictments already suggested that the government has a trove of information on the functioning of AIPAC, an organization that hates exposure, noted the JTA. In fact, AIPAC keeps such a low profile that it is rarely mentioned in the Washington, DC media.

Two decades ago when the Post mentioned the Israeli lobby, it did so using quotes, as if to imply that, while a few people might use the term, it was something outside the mainstream. The quotes have disappeared, but 32 of the 35 still active pro-Israel PACs (political action committees) that, in coordination with AIPAC, shell out campaign contributions, have totally misleading names, with no mention of Israel, Jewish, Zionism or the Middle East (see the November 2004 Washington Report, p. 24).

AIPAC has been called a Ò®ight flower, in that it blossoms in darkness and dies in the sunlight. This is an apt designation because, while it is so powerful that it inspires fear among politicians, it is so little known by the public. Even as late as August 2005, The New York Times, David Johnston, in his story on the Rosen and Weissman indictments, described AIPAC as "A pro-Israel lobbying group."

Jewish leaders seem particularly worried that the FBI has learned so much about how the AIPAC juggernaut works: here is a strange sense that when the two [Rosen and Weissman] are indicted, a lot of crap is going to come out, and it could have precocious implications for the institution, said a Jewish communal leader with strong ties to AIPAC, as quoted in the newspaper Forward.

AIPAC's worst nightmare, of course, is having to register as a foreign, rather than an American, lobby. That would shed too much light on AIPAC and Israeli activities alike, something the "night flower" might not survive.

News Orgs Working On Stories Tying Cheney Into Plamegate Developing
The Huffington Post | Posted October 11, 2005 07:28 PM

The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg are working on stories that point to Vice President Dick Cheney as the target of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation into the leaking of CIA operative Valerie Plame's name.
---------
And cheney hasn't been showing up for dinner! And there's this from WRH, "Cheney spokesman departs country as CIA leak investigation wraps up."
The chief spokesman for Vice President Dick Cheney, Steve Schmidt, left the United States Oct. 3 and won't return until Oct. 26, just as the investigation into who outed a covert CIA agent wraps up."
Maybe trying to duck a subpoena?

#37 Gerald...Another statement that Scott Ritter made today...when I asked him if Phase II of the Senate Select Committe on Intelligence would be implemented. This is the committe that is supposed to investigate how all of the pre-war intelligence was used and where it came from. (the OSP Office of Special Plans
and the WHIG(White
House Iraq group) were "off limits" to all of the other investigations.

Although the american public has been led to believe that the 5 different investigations of pre-war intelligence investigated "ALL" of the faulty hogwash , this has not happened to this day.

The reason I will continue to harp on this is because the very same individuals who brought us this mess in Iraq have been working hard to lay the ground work for the next military action with Syria and Iran.

When I hear Scott Ritter basically confirm that possibility ( he was completely correct about the false claims before the war), I am very worried about the potential military actions that may come next.As Scott stated in one of his articles "americans are sleepwalking" into the next war.

I have heard some military experts say that the U.S. does not have the capacity, will, or the people power to pull another military action off. They did not care about the why's and how's of this quagmire. Why would they care about these essentials in Syria and Iran. These right wing radicals see this as their moment for complete domination in that part of the world, and it appears they will stop at nothing.

I am still deeply concerned about the persistent efforts of John Bolton at the UN. His successful efforts to bring Iran and their nuclear program before the Security Council are paving the way for more serious action. The possibiltiy that he could manipulate intelligence or the investigation of Hariri's assasination, pointing to Syria whether it is a FACT or not. They will use every means and excuse to implement their agenda. I have read most of their plans at "The project FOR A NEW AMERICAN CENTURY, I have read the document " A CLEAN BREAK..SECURING THE REALM" (that Perle and Wurmser wrote for Netanyahu(sp?).THESE FOLKS MEAN BUSINESS and their business does not seem like it is constructive for the U.S. And their agenda has not made the U.S. or the world safer for anyone.

If Phase II of the Senate Select committee on Intelligence were implemented these individuals (who created this quagmire) with what they call "NOBLE LIES" might begin to worry about beign held accountable. But if we do not DEMAND THAT THEY BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, ALONG WITH SOME OF OUR REPRESENTATIVES. They will forge ahead with their agenda.

I am certain that CNN's Wolf Blitzer will not be doing any programs with Scott Ritter, on the OFFICE OF SPECIAL PLANS or PHASE II. Instead he will probably do another lovefest for Judy Miller.. a sequel to Lou Dobbs lovefest for Judy.

How to End the War Natural Born Liars

"Congressional Democrats and Republicans alike have made it clear that they are going to ignore demonstrations and public opinion. The print and TV media have made it clear that there will be no reporting that will hold the Bush administration accountable for its deceit and delusion.

There still is a way to bring reality to the Bush administration. The public has the Internet. Is the antiwar movement well enough organized to collect via the Internet signatures on petitions for impeachment, perhaps one petition for each state? Millions of signatures would embarrass Bush before the world and embarrass our elected Representatives for their failure to act.

If no one in Congress acted on the petitions, all the rhetoric about war for democracy would fall flat. It would be obvious that there is no democracy in America.

If the cloak of democracy is stripped away, Bush's "wars for democracy" begin to look like the foreign adventures of a megalomaniac. Remove Bush's rhetorical cover, and tolerance at home and abroad for Bush's war would evaporate. If Bush persisted, he would become a pariah.

Americans may feel that they cannot undercut a president at war, in which case Americans will become an embattled people consumed by decades of conflict. Americans can boot out Bush or pay dearly in blood and money."

Bush Family Secrets

Prescott Bush had dealings with Hitler for nine years. He would tell the family that he admired Hitler's leadership skills.

George, elder, was involved in the Iran-Contra cover-up. This was a treasonous act that went nowhere. He gave weapons of mass destruction to Iraq. He remained silent of the murders of the Chinese students in China in 1989. He broke promises to the Iraqi people to overthrow Saddam after the Gulf War. He helped train Osama bin Laden's terrorists. Bush, elder, is an advisor to the Carlyle Company that invests heavily in defense contracts to gain huge profits from war and weaponry. He said that if Americans knew what the Bushes did to this country, they would be chased down the streets and lynched.

Barbara "Nutcracker" Bush said that why should worry about body bags and death. She does not want to worry her beautiful mind with body bags and death.

Neil Bush's saving and loan scandals were covered up or he was never tried.

Jeb Bush's rigging of Florida's 2000 election.

Bush, younger, and his business dealings made him millions of dollars through questionable information from insider stock sales. He had close ties with Ken Lay and Enron. He spiked the investigations of Osama bin Laden. He made his first million dollars as principal of Arbusto Oil in Texas, a nearly worthless venture, ended up a gold mine with the financing of Saudi-linked businessmen and Gulf Arabs. He received $4.1 million for his presidential run from five Texas energy companies that controlled the energy power sales to California. These companies were Enron, TXU, Reliant, Dynegy, and the El Paso Corporation. At Arbusto Oil Bush had an offshore tax shelter to avoid paying federal income taxes. Bush is a true rich patriotic American? Bush, younger, has loosened regulations toward companies that manufacture and produce toxic products and toxic wastes that are sent into our environment. He is awarding no bid contracts to companies that have offshore tax shelters and pay no taxes. Halliburton has 20 such tax shelters. Yet, Americans are asked to pay taxes. American companies with offshore tax shelters avoid paying close to $700 billion in taxes. Americans have paid nearly $300 billion so far for the Iraq war. It is estimated that Americans will have to pay over $2 trillion for 20 years of occupation. These monies are lost to our citizens in our cities and states. Homeland Security is wasting money and a waste of time. We have the security departments to do the job without Homeland Security. Bush's increase in temper tantrums is a warning sign of a demented and deranged psycho.

This information is only the tip of the iceberg. George, younger, rides to the presidency with the Catholic vote because he says that he is pro-life. As governor of Texas 152 inmates were put to death. As president he starts a war with the killing of thousands of Iraqis and American lives. The war started through lies. Bush is a murderer and a war criminal. He has signed directives to kill Iraqi leaders and possibly other leaders from other countries. Bush claims to be compassionate and pro-life but Americans have no universal health care and affordable prescription drugs. Bush has loosened regulations for corporations who hire illegal aliens. These corporations eith the help of illegal aliens are not on the books and the corporations avoid paying $400 billion in taxes. Tax shelters and other tax breaks for corporations Americans are out $1.1 trillion per year in taxes.

In 2000 we need to remember that the Republicans claimed to b good, holy, and saintly human beings and the Democrats were bad, evil, and devils. George, younger, will be the first living saint canonized by the Catholic Church. He will be Saint George, patron saint to the rich, very rich, and super rich.

In my confession to my Spiritual Advisor the priest asked me to pray for the American people, our politicians, and Catholic clerics.

Remember March 30, 2003? The Iraq war was in full fury, and U.S. troops, equipped with their embedded reporters, were racing toward Baghdad. So what does Colin Powell do? He gives a fawning speech to AIPAC.

It was as if Powell had tried hard to come up with the one act guaranteed to inflame the Arab world at a delicate time. And he succeeded. He provided the perfect fodder for the U.S.-Israel conspiracy theories already so popular in the Middle East.

The accepted story line is that the administration's real incompetence didn't begin until after the conclusion of "major combat operations." In truth, though, the idiocy can be traced back to at least March 30, 2003, when Powell pretty much ensured that this war will never end.

From ABC.net

CNNNN discovers Americans support war on Kyrgyzstan, 'wherever it may be'

The difficulties experienced in Iraq have not put Americans off going to war again, CNNNN's Julian Morrow found when he surveyed people on the streets of Texas.

While the failure to capture Saddam Hussein, locate any weapons of mass destruction or control the almost daily terrorist attacks might have discouraged a lesser imperial power, Americans are already sizing up the central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan as their next invasion target.

Though CNNNN commentator Chris Taylor said that the 'teething problems' in Iraq should not be seen as any indicator that the war had been anything other than a complete success, he admitted he had been encouraged by what he termed Americans' "refusal to think twice" before rushing into another conflict.

Taylor paid tribute to the Americans' refusal to let even their prior ignorance of Kyrgyzstan's existence stop them from declaring war on the former Soviet republic.

"It's that sort of devil-may-care, gung-ho attitude from Donny Rumsfeld down that has made the US so universally popular around the world today," he commented.

In fact, Morrow's investigation discovered almost universal enthusiasm for a war on Kyrgyzstan. "I don't think they're powerful enough to be a threat to America," one person commented when interviewed. "But we should invade them anyway."

Another American on the streets of Texas said that the argument for a war was very simple. "Bush must be right. He's a Texan!"

New Power Cell Works For Nearly 20 Years

Columbia MO (UPI) Oct 11, 2005

University of Missouri-Columbia scientists say they've developed a power cell capable of providing continuous power for years.

The scientists from the university's research reactor and the Qynergy Corp. say their discovery will create new capabilities for applications that require longer power life in compact, low volume containers. The cells have the potential of continuously generating small amounts of electricity for nearly 20 years.

"In our research, we were able to obtain an energy conversion efficiency of 11 percent, while the highest success to date had only been 5 percent," said David Robertson, associate director of research and education at research reactor.

The technology used in betavoltaic power cells is similar to solar power generation, but uses radioisotopes as the energy source, researchers said. The cells use isotopes that are fully contained within the power cell -- similar to the radioactive source found in many smoke detectors -- and can be used without external risk.

The technology transforms beta particles into electrical power with the capacity to generate electricity for years, depending on the energy and half-life of the isotope used.

Bones prove the existence of 'hobbits'

By Steve Connor, Science Editor
Published: 12 October 2005

The bones of at least nine more "hobbits" - a miniature species of human discovered two years ago - have been unearthed by scientists excavating the floor of a cave on a remote Indonesian island.

The discovery of the remains confirms that the miniature people, who grew to about 3 feet, were a truly ancient species and not merely pygmies or modern humans with diseased skulls.

A team of scientists from Australia and Indonesia said the latest remains include a lower jawbone of a second individual as well as the arms of the first individual whose partial skeleton was unearthed in 2003.

The scientists have also found evidence that the species, which they have called Homo floresiensis after the island of Flores where the find was made, used fire and hunted a dwarf species of elephant called stegadon.

Anti-Bush in the Afterlife

by John Nichols

Perhaps with a friendly reminder to Republicans that it is not merely appropriate, but necessary, to criticize a president who has lost his way. That may be best done with a quote from the TR, himself. To wit:

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants," Roosevelt explained in 1918. "He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

Of course, if it really is most important to tell the truth about the president, it might be necessary add the following: "P.S. Bush is still a whistleass."

Mass Murderers

By DOUG THOMPSON
Oct 12, 2005, 06:20

It is time to call the war in Iraq what it really us: the mass murder by the United States of America of at least 150,000 civilians Рmostly women and children.

We say "at least" because the Bush administrationÕ³ propaganda machine goes to great lengths to hide the exact number of innocents who have died as a result of our invasion of the country two years ago.

The warmongers who try to con us into accepting murder as a justifiable means to an end claim the invasion was a necessary part of the so-called war on terror. Bullshit. The attacks against the Taliban in Afghanistan may have been necessary to flush out al Qaeda and punish those responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks but, as we should have known but learned all too late, the Iraq invasion was an ill-conceived military FUBAR based on lies, manufactured intelligence and hidden political agendas.

And, according to the International Red Cross, this illegal invasion of a country that posed no immediate threat to this country has resulted in the death of at least 150,000 civilians Рmostly women and children Рand the hands of the U.S.

This number does not include the rising toll of civilian deaths from the almost daily suicide bombers Рterrorists who have entered the country and have flourished since President George W. Bush flew onto an aircraft carrier in a ridiculous photo op two years ago and declared "mission accomplished."

How To End The War

By Paul Craig Roberts

10/11/05 "ICH" -- -- George W. Bush is a natural born liar. He lied us into a war, and now he is lying to keep us there. In his October 6 self-congratulatory speech at that neoconservative shrine, the National Endowment for Democracy, the President of the United States said: "Today there are more than 80 Iraqi army battalions fighting the insurgency alongside our forces."

Eighty Iraqi battalions makes it sound like the US is just lending Iraq a helping hand. I wonder what Congress and the US commanders in Iraq thought when they heard there were 80 Iraqi battalions that American troops are helping to fight insurgents? Just a few days prior to BushÕ³ speech, Generals Casey and Abizaid told Congress that, as a matter of fact, there was only one Iraqi battalion able to undertake operations against insurgents.

I wonder, also, who noticed the great contradiction in BushÕ³ speech. On the one hand, he claims steady progress toward freedom and democracy in Iraq. On the other hand, he seeks the American publicÕ³ support for open-ended war.

Group: Internal memos show oil companies limited refineries to drive up prices
RAW STORY

The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR) today exposed internal oil company memos that show how the industry intentionally reduced domestic refining capacity to drive up profits, RAW STORY has learned.

The three internal memos from Mobil, Chevron and Texaco illustrate how the oil juggernauts reduced refining capacity and drove independent refiners out of business in an effort to increase prices. The highly confidential memos reveal a nationwide effort by American Petroleum Institute, the lobbying and research arm of the oil industry, to encourage major refiners to close their refineries in the mid-1990s.

The memos from Mobil, Chevron and Texaco show the following.

-- An internal 1996 memorandum from Mobil demonstrates the oil company's successful strategies to keep smaller refiner Powerine from reopening its California refinery. The document makes it clear that much of the hardships created by California's regulations governing refineries came at the urging of the major oil companies and not the environmental organizations blamed by the industry. The other alternative plan discussed in the event Powerine did open the refinery was "....buying all their avails and marketing it ourselves" to insure the lower price fuel didn't get into the market.

-- An internal Chevron memo states; "A senior energy analyst at the recent API convention warned that if the US petroleum industry doesn't reduce its refining capacity it will never see any substantial increase in refinery margins."

-- The Texaco memo disclosed how the industry believed in the mid-1990s that "the most critical factor facing the refining industry on the West Coast is the surplus of refining capacity, and the surplus gasoline production capacity. (The same situation exists for the entire U.S. refining industry.) Supply significantly exceeds demand year-round. This results in very poor refinery margins and very poor refinery financial results. Significant events need to occur to assist in reducing supplies and/or increasing the demand for gasoline. One example of a significant event would be the elimination of mandates for oxygenate addition to gasoline. Given a choice, oxygenate usage would go down, and gasoline supplies would go down accordingly. (Much effort is being exerted to see this happen in the Pacific Northwest.)" As a result of such pressure, Washington State eliminated the ethanol mandate - requiring greater quantities of refined supply to fill the gasoline volume occupied by ethanol.
-------------
Is there any doubt whatsoever that they are purposely trying to force everyone over the brink and into bankruptcy? And the media plays along.

DHS and AOL: An Unholy Alliance

The Financial Reporter (U.K.)

Washington- The American-based internet giant, AOL, wholly-owned by Time-Warner, has formed a working partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to permit unlimited surveillance of the millions of AOL online members, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

AOL works closely with the DHS to supply information on any AOL customer and allows agents from these entities free and unfettered access to AOL Hq at Dulles, VA for the purpose of watching over and keeping surveillance on the millions of AOL customers, according to the report.

The legal basis for this is the recently Congress-approved Patriot Act which permits warrantless searches of persons and property. While information gleaned from delving into personal computer messages is supposed to be kept confidential, it appears that the DHS has exceeded their brief and obtained what appears to be strictly personal information which is then circulated to entities outside the DHS.

The Department of Commerce report also states that news of this surveillance has leaked out and is causing serious concern in the American, and European, business communities who are fearful that trade secrets may be given to other business entities, considered as friendly to the Bush Administration.

Maybe it's time to dump AOL, let them know this is not acceptable.

Because of the popularity of Fox "news," all Reich-wingers now have carte blanche on what used to be reputable news orginizations. Forgot how the *New York Times* jumped on GW's revenge war in Iraq??? By abolishing the Fairness Doctrine Reagan goebbesized the new forever, and i've since been searching for that alleged LIBERAL media.

Memos indicating that we have a fascist government, and this surprises anyone? Wait until the first of January when the minimum credit card payments double, think everyone will be able to afford them? And the interest rates are going up, how about house payments? Wage increases, nope that is inflation and they will fight to keep wages down, but prices? Nope that is just the free market at work. Yep, our government by the corporations for the corporations and you are all just carbon based work units on the balance sheet, don't worry work till you die and then let your kids replace you and make more work units while starving and hoping for a better life. People get a grip your government and life has been hijacked and you better start to fight against it if you want to have a chance. Otherwise bend over because here it comes. Enjoy your new lifestyle.

I just read a post in Raw Story that tells me dailykos has been hacked. It also said that some of the anti bush sites are claiming that the hacking is coming from Navel Intelligence.

You forgot health auto and home insurance. Heating home prices (natural gas up 40% expected). This is a robust economy?

Halliburton has been awarded yet another contract. 33 million. What is dick's charity of choice anyway. I hope Halliburton does an outstanding job because the jobs involved in the contract don't really seem specialized. Roofing, mold mitigation, exterior repairs to buildings? What local firm can't do those things?

What is the purpose of this article? There is nothing to it. Just the timeline. Huh? Obituaries are short and sweet. (By the way this was taken from Talking Points Memo)

Blair unveils tough British anti-terrorism laws
Britain published sweeping plans to fight terrorism on Wednesday which, if passed into law, would let police hold suspects for three months without charge, sparking anger from senior judges and civil rights groups.
also
Critics say the measures are draconian compared with other countries and even Britain's top judge has attacked the plans.

So if these measures seem draconian to other countries how does that make our indefinite detention policy look? We sure are a shining example to be spreading democracy.

Fast Track

I have just received off the fax machine information. American Catholic clerics and laypersons have asked the Vatican to place Bush on the fast track for sainthood even though he is still alive. They cite two areas as shining examples for sainthood - pro-life and a peacemaker. Canonization should be completed in the early fall of 2008 just in time for Bush to declare martial law and suspend the 2008 elections. As I receive more information, I will pass it along to you.

Speaking of fascist government, I recently came across this article from the American Conservative detailing the fascist ideological backbone of arch Neoconservative Michael Leeden.

----

Ledeen has gained notoriety in recent months for the following paragraph in his latest book, The War Against the Terror Masters. In what reads like a prophetic approval of the policy of chaos now being visited on Iraq, Ledeen wrote,

Creative destruction is our middle name, both within our own society and abroad. We tear down the old order every day, from business to science, literature, art, architecture, and cinema to politics and the law. Our enemies have always hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity, which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) and shames them for their inability to keep pace. Seeing America undo traditional societies, they fear us, for they do not wish to be undone. They cannot feel secure so long as we are there, for our very existenceour existence, not our politicsthreatens their legitimacy. They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission.

I love my Catholic faith but it is my hope that many Catholic clerics and lay persons will locate their moral compasses.

I hope they do too Gerald. I'm not Catholic, but I see ALOT of probs with that organisation. Nothing personal, but... it's hard to take anything they say serious, until and if, they confront all the pedophiles and the cover-up of same. Talking about hypocrisy!! I know there are millions of good catholics, but they are led by a secret society of 'look the other way and don't mention a word of this' sexual abusers of young boys. It's not unlike the leaders of this country with their lies and 'trust me' *wink wink* attitude. Do you agree?
Sorry dude, but for a long time now, I've scrolled past most of your posts for that reason.

Cheaper to Sue

I do not condone any wrongful behavior. The Catholic Church is not the only religion that has wrongful behavior. She makes headlines because the standard for Catholics is higher and the bar is set higher and I have no problems with higher standards.

I do know that through the years it is cheaper to sue than to work and many of the so called abuses are 30 and 40 years old. I have a problem when behavior is brought to light after 30 and 40 years. How many of these suits are justified?

The greatest experience for me as a Catholic is the participation in the Liturgy of the Eucharist. I am in awe with this experience.

The human being is the natural liar. We have lied to ourselves and others, individually and in societies, since time immemorial. Pride, ego, lust, all those things we try to tamp down with a moral code and the codification of crime laws, will ever and always be with us because we are human.

Why? Why do we lie? Is it out of fear? Fear of being caught out for acting in a way we don't want anyone to know? Fear of losing property or life? Are we so self-conscious we can not face the reality of our faults and failures? Do we owe allegiances that we dare not disappoint?

Yes, we lie because we fear and because we believe. There is no greater epiphany than to look at the truth of the inner being and realize that at the core of personal existence is a command to explore and learn.

There is no reason to stop and 'believe' in awe or to bask in the false light of propaganda. If one is tempted to fall in with the deliverers of the false word, take heed and go and learn.
